This idea that "Michael can't pass block" is starting to be as much of a catch phrase as "stay in the moment" or "one game at a time". There's no easier position to make the move from college to pro than RB. WTF do you mean he "can't pass block"? Is he plain stupid or does he lack the necessary athleticism to do so?

He played at a major program where passing was a big part of the offense. Now add 4 solid months with the best coaches and players in the world coaching him.... but he still can't get on the field because he just can't block? I'm calling BS. He must be putting the ball on the carpet with regularity in practice. That's my guess.

Before any of you apologists launch your attacks, do know that I am fine with Michael sitting...as long as ML is healthy. There is a reason he's not in there and I don't want him in there if Pete don't. But this constant, tired excuse of him not being able to pass block is turning into a joke. I once feared there was more to this story, now I HOPE there's more to this story.

Alexander was taken out on passing downs his entire career. 4 months in the pros doesn't magically make you trustworthy to protect the QB, and with a QB getting killed as much as Russell, maybe they figure it isn't worth exposing him to extra risk. Not that Michael isn't a good back, but Lynch is an awesome back and he can protect the QB, so it makes no sense to force Michael in there.

You could be right, it could be something else, I'm just pointing out that the pass blocking angle isn't that absurd.

when you have a player as big and fast as michael, it might be good to give him a few real-game touches and see what he does with the opportunity.

maybe carroll already knows what he has in michael.

hopefully it's not the fumbling thing, although ahman green had a pretty big career, even with a bit of fumblitis.

this michael kid definitely passes the size/speed eyeball test. maybe they're still measuring his intangibles.

Even though just about every coach i have heard speak about rookies having trouble picking up the NFL pass protection schemes I agree with you.I think there is more to it.Rb is usually about the easiest to come in and make an impact and I dont think there is a more willing coach to give a rookie playing time, something else is going on.I think the simplest reason is he hasnt earned it.Just like Tate had trouble getting playing time when he was a rookie. He didnt earn it.
One thing about the ZBS is it relies on the RB making the right read everytime to prevent negative plays.Man blocking schemes give RBs more freedom to run where they want to.Could be as simple as that.
