I'm not happy about being right. I didn't like the trade for Shaheed, and wanted to get an upgrade for the OL because we were just one injury on OL away from having real problems. Peopled mocked me, but an upgrade at OL would've helped us much more than Shaheed.
Which team was willing to trade a decent Oline for a decent price?

We should have traded for Steve Hutchinson when we had the chance at the trade deadline... 🤦🏻‍♂️

I think they expected to close a deal for offensive line too but a deal wasn’t reached. It takes two sides to close a deal. If the asking price was too high, especially because teams knew Hawks wanted a guard, were they supposed to flush a high pick away ? Touch spot.

You keep talking about trading for an offensive linemen as if they grow on trees. I'm sure that if John Schneider could have gotten one, he would have. One lineman who was traded at the deadline was Trevor Penning, who hasn't been a good player (near the bottom of PFF rankings) and is a serious problem in the locker room, and the Chargers traded for him only because they were desperate after injuries to Slater and Alt.

You can't complain about Verse out playing Haynes. Verse is a 1st round pick, NFL Defensive Rookie of the year, and Pro Bowler. Whereas Haynes was a 4 year starter at right guard in Connecticut that they picked in the 3rd round. He's coming off IR and gets thrown in the mix. Staying on his feet is a damn good accomplishment!

Are you claiming that no team would've traded an OL for a 4th and a 5th? Are you actually claiming that? You can say they don't grow on trees all you want, but we sent a 4th and 5th for a WR we don't need.
Are you actually going to claim no team in the NFL would've taken the 4th and 5th for an OL?
Are you claiming that Shaheed helps us more than an OL would have?
If you aren't willing to make both of those claims then you're admitting I'm right. Either make both of those claims outright or admit I was right. There is no middle ground.

Lots of things are possible but you are saying that because we traded for a WR we didn’t try to get a lineman. This just isn’t something that you or I or anyone else on this board has any knowledge about. We can’t just assume because we got one player we didn’t try to get another. John is always working behind the scenes and we don’t know what he’s up to until it comes
to fruition

I thought I read that Haynes graded out better than any of our other OL in the Rams game. Obviously super small sample so who knows how relevant that is.

If I remember right everyone was super high on Haynes after the draft but he's never got a shot yet right? Kind of concerning he hasn't cracked the starting line up with our trouble at guard the last couple of years but who knows maybe this is his time to shine.

Sometimes players get better with more time practicing under good coaches.

Yes, I do believe that, outside of Trevor Penning, there were no offensive linemen that any team was willing to trade for a 4th and a 5th. How do I know this? Because there were other teams competing for a playoff spot who were desperate, even more than the Seahawks, for an offensive lineman.

The Chargers offensive line was devastated by injuries, and yet the best they could do was to get Trevor Penning, a player that the Seahawks would not have wanted because he would not have been an improvement and he had significant downsides. The Texans also need help on the O-line. In addition, the Commanders, the Vikings, the Packers and the Lions all are in a similar situation to the Seahawks.

I believe that John Schneider is well aware of the issues on the offensive line, and if the situation could be improved through a trade, he would have done it. I speculate that he would have been willing to part with better than a 4th round pick for a starting level offensive lineman if one could have been had. (Like he did when he traded a second and a third for Duane Brown a few years ago.)

Btw, I'm not trying to pick a fight with you. I think we all agree that upgrading the offensive line was a trade deadline priority. I think our disagreement is over whether or not there was a trade there that Schneider turned down in favor of Shaheed. (I don't think there was, except for Penning--I believe that Mickey Loomis offered Penning to Schneider and he turned it down.) I can't prove it, but all the evidence points to the unlikelihood that there was anyone available.

Practicing against our DL surely helped Haynes' development.

you can't just conjure up a trade for an Olineman. Saying you wanted one isn't the brilliant flex you think it is.

Odd take IMO. Liking the shaheed trade is not mutually exclusive from securing an OL.

Also kinda early to judge Shaheed…reminds me of negative Nelly prognostications early this season that blew up in posters faces.

Haynes played 14 snaps at right guard against the Vikings, but the results were not that different from when Bradford was in there. As anyone could see, the interior line was a disaster on Sunday.

Although I don't always agree with PFF, these results seem to reflect reality:

As bad as Bradford has been, Zabel has consistently graded out just as bad as Bradford this year. Unless the Seahawks can improve the play at these two spots, the offense is not going to do well against good teams.
