I read somewhere can't remember perhaps on Fieldgulls that Matthews is up to 230 pounds.
That's 12 pounds over his listed weight of 218.
I don't think Matthews was going to be a strong downfield vertical threat that make plays on seperation and route running.
So if his added weight is good weight and he's bigger and stronger, I think he's a good comp for a Brandon Marshall esque WR as someone who can now dominate with his length and now size in the short to intermediate passing game.
So if he can build of his Super bowl success where he dominated mismatches against smaller corners and add that to the influence and opportunity you get with Jimmy Graham, it makes since now why the Seahawks took a guy like Tyler Lockett.
A 6'5, 230 more developed Matthews paired with 6'7, 265 Graham and 6'5, 260 Luke Willson in 2 TE sets I think is going to be much needed in 3rd down chain moving situations and be successfully deadly in the Red Zone.
You put that together with the Lynch and Wilson read option attack, you got big, physical downfield blocking or big WRs Russ can locate quickly. Matthews and Graham have the ability to win jump balls in tight coverage and Luke Willson can settle in a zone or sneak out into the shallow flat and use his athleticism to pick up YAC.
Not to mention the rest of the WRs the team will rotate in that should find success and more opportunity with Graham taking some pressure off on the field: Baldwin, Kearse, Lockett, Norwood.
I think we are going to see a consistently more dominate offense with vast upgrade potential In short yardage and red zone passing.
I'm exciting to see what Russ can do with his big targets and how it can transform the offense in General.
