The timeframe for return from an ACL tear is generally nine months.

A return before nine months is associated with a seven times increased risk of re-injuring the ACL, but I don’t actually know if that study measured from the date of injury or the date of surgery.

That would put him in the October November timeframe, and at this point in recovery he should be doing agility and reactive training exercises, as well as hop testing.

He might be slightly ahead if he is taking non-contact reps, but I wouldn’t count on it.

I’m sure the athletic staff will keep a tight rein on him, as this is the point where athletes get overconfident and reinjure themselves.

Being able to to run is one thing, cut and burst to the hole is another, he may be practice ready but back to his former ability, i have doubts till next year.
Oh absolutely.

It's just that it's encouraging that he's practicing now because that accelerates the timetable for his return considerably.

Even if he has to miss the first few games, it's not like how we feared it would be where we thought it would be until mid-season (at best) when he'd return.

EDIT : And as I type this out and post it, I notice Trackhawk throwing cold water over it. BOOOO!

I'd like to see Charbs ready early and look like mid-season form ... only to lose snaps to JPrice who breaks out as the steal of round one.

Hopefully that RB room can all push for meaningful playtime at the beginning of the season. If Holani and Wilson don't overperform in pre-season and early-season, they'll be riding pine when Charbs returns. If it's a true 1a, 1b, 1c sort of roster, Charbs can take his time, get strong, be fresh and hungry for 2nd half of the season. Add in Tory Horton and Rashid Shaheed on (good: well timed and well executed) sweeps, and the run-game has a high ceiling. Of course the opposite is plausible too...we'll see....

Add in Tory Horton ....
Anyone with any real news on Horton?

Not getting anything substantial in my searches. A lot of hopes and prayers that he's ready for camp, which doesn't instill a lot of confidence in me personally, lol.

His injuries have been a mystery the whole time, in an otherwise transparent coaching/FO staff thus far. They seem to beat around the bush when it comes to Tory.

ETA* Apologies for the derail.

"We will only know once Training Camp starts."

That is the mantra I follow right now.

Hopefully he'll be there ready to roll.

Our season doesn't hinge on Charbs coming back sooner rather than later. He is one of 22 starters on off/def. His is an injury we know of. Its the ones over the course of a season that concern me. If we can go into the season completely healthy, minus Charbs, I'll be okay with that. And if EA and TH can get into the games from week 1, I'd say we're doin good. Not worried about the RB room unless we lose more.

I am just trying to remember right... Didn't Charbs struggle when he got the chance to be the lead back?

He has been a pure stud as the backup, but I kind of remember him not being as effective when he started.

Fun note: All we have for Half Backs are back ups.

Hopefully Price is that diamond in the ruff everyone is saying he is!
Who's to say he'll be the lead and not just have the same role as last year? Fascinated to see what Price and Wilson can do. Kenny McIntosh is also a possible x factor.

Walker was also much better this past season for us than in his previous seasons. Football is a game of match-ups and advanced strategy; let's see what Charbonnet does THIS year, IMO.

Thats a fair take, but he could stutter out of the gate because he is coming off an injury. The year after is probably the best indicator.

I keep going back to Price being a back up in college, decent numbers but to hope this guy can dominate in the NFL??

Last guy to do that was Terrell Davis. It's been a minute

The problem is when you bring a guy back early its like a 7x increase in the risk of re-injuring it. My hope is Price is as advertised, Wilson adds an element and they can actually be patient with Charbonnet. I would rather they are cautious with him rather than bring him back.

Same here.

If Price can hit the ground running (no pun intended) and Wilson can show he's up to the task as his running mate, it would be the best case scenario in keeping Charbs out until the Hawks are 1000% certain he's completely ready and healed up.
