The timeframe for return from an ACL tear is generally nine months.
A return before nine months is associated with a seven times increased risk of re-injuring the ACL, but I don’t actually know if that study measured from the date of injury or the date of surgery.
That would put him in the October November timeframe, and at this point in recovery he should be doing agility and reactive training exercises, as well as hop testing.
He might be slightly ahead if he is taking non-contact reps, but I wouldn’t count on it.
I’m sure the athletic staff will keep a tight rein on him, as this is the point where athletes get overconfident and reinjure themselves.
