Look man, there is one and only one reason Seattle might be a better team and able to win in San Francisco, and it's NOT the Legion of Boom. Had the 49ers not abandoned the running game, you wouldn't have gotten those three interceptions. The 49ers are playing much better football than they did in weeks 2-4.

Here is the one thing the 49ers will not be able to take into account: Russell Wilson.

That's it. The 49ers can decrease the threat of your secondary by running the ball (by STICKING with it). Kaepernick will have more weapons in the passing game (and he's playing a lot better now, too- 3rd in Total QBR, back to back 99 or better, etc), which will at some point in the rematch make your coaches think twice about 8 men in the box.

But Russell Wilson running around behind the line of scrimmage like a rabbit being chased by hungry fat men and completing his customary miracle passes on third down is not something that can be accounted for.

If Seattle wins in San Francisco, that's going to be why. The last game was close until the fourth quarter. If that happens again, the difference is going to be key third downs, which Russell Wilson seems to consistently work magic on.

Maybe they didn't "stick with it" because your running back had a wopping 16 yards on 9 carries.

The toughest opponent they've had in the last 5 games was Arizona, and that game was played in San Francisco. I'm sure their DVOA went up today, but going into this game it was only +16% for the season, tied with the Carolina Panthers. Seattle is at +34%, second in the NFL.

I've thought all along that SF was a 12-4 team, but only because of their schedule. I think they get beat handily in New Orleans, and I think Seattle kicks their butts in the rematch as well. They'll win all the rest of their games. They are masters of beating bad teams, but have looked very beatable against top competition. In a lot of ways, they remind me of the 2012 Texans. Still have to respect them because of the schedule inequality and because they are more consistent week to week than Seattle is, but Seattle is a better team, and it's not even that close right now.

Well if SF sucks so bad who have you beaten? Seems to me the only team Seattle has beaten with a winning record is SF, who apparently sucks but only has a good record because they play crappy teams.

The Seahawks have only played one team that was below .500 when they played them, and three of those seven games were 10am starts. The one team they lost to, the same team that clobbered the 49ers by 20 in your house, needed officiating help to beat Seattle in Indy with a 4th quarter comeback despite being outgained by over 100 yards for the game. And that was on the road at 10am.

Seattle's schedule gets much easier and in fact they are already guaranteed an easier SOS for the season than SF has when the year is over, but that doesn't account for the 5 vs. 2 10 am starts or how SF draws just one tough road opponent out of the division compared to several for Seattle.

I've watched every game for both teams. Kaepernick aside, the 49ers aren't underachieving. But watching them, they look a tier below where they were last season. Their explosive plays are not as frequent and seemingly always hinge on opponent mistakes. When I saw their DVOA sitting right next to Carolina, it didn't surprise me. SF has looked a lot like Carolina so far this season.

Seattle Is underachieving by a greater amount, their blocking situation is near disaster levels and it's a major testament to Wilson and Lynch that Seattle is still 4th in scoring anyway. I realize that SF is missing some players too, but Seattle's offense seems to be missing more than SF's is right now, and when they get the band back together over the next month I would expect Seattle to challenge for both the #1 offense and #1 defense in the NFC.

I respect SF, but I think they are merely an above average team right now who's superbly coached. I know it sounds like a backhanded compliment to say they are padding wins against easy teams, but Seattle lost 4 regular season games last year against teams who finished with losing records. So winning the "should win" games is nothing to scoff at. SF isn't on Seattle's level so far this season, but their consistency gives them a real shot in the division despite that.

9 carries...

In 2011, no one could run on the 49ers. They quickly abandoned the running game midway through the game almost every week. The result was one of the statistically great run defenses in NFL history. In 2012 and this year, with largely the same players on defense, teams are getting more success running the ball. Why? They aren't abandoning it. Running the ball takes time to start being effective in most cases. It takes patience. It's a way to wear down the defensive line, to slow down their pass rush. It's also about resting your own defense. You can't abandon it. Your odds of winning decrease quite a bit if you abandon the run, because it effects more than your offense.

If they don't abandon it, they'll be in the game.

If they're in the game, they still might lose, because of Russell Wilson.

I'd usually agree about SF and the result of them sticking with the run. Not in this game though. There's always a chance, but it just wasn't happening in that game. Here's the box score for rushing in that game for SF.

NameCARYDSAVGTDLG
Kaepernick9879.7028
Gore9161.805
Dixon14404
Hunter1-7-700
[tdo=6]Rushing[/tdo]
Seattle had 4 rushers averaging more than 3 YPC and three out of the four had longs of 10 or more yards. Conversely SF has 1 rusher carry for more than 5 yards on a play and it was their QB. What's more, your defense has to absorb what, 2 injuries to starters which further diminishes your ability to stop the run (NT and FS). SEA knows you only have 2 targets to go to in the passing game, they've assigned their best corner to shadow your biggest receiving threat, shut him down so now SEA can key in on the run and shut it down. Hence the 1.8 YD average for Gore.

They tried to put the game in Kaepernick's hands and he tried to do it but the guy was your only offensive weapon in the run game and he didn't have anyone to throw to.

Accept it, you guys weren't winning that game (whether you kept feeding Gore or not).

Now, with VD, McDonald, Crabtree, Manningham and Boldin on the field. I think that opens things up a ton for SF but it just wasn't an option on Sept 15th.

Just my opinion...

If the 49ers were not a concern, then this would not be an 8 page thread.

The 49ers have looked better than the Seahawks in multiple games.

They easily handled Houston (who almost beat us) and manhandled the Titans. Maybe if we are healthy we are better, but since we are halfway into the season and our offensive line is still giving up more pressure than almost any in the league, it is reasonable to point out that other than the Arizona game and the game we played them (where they had only one wide receiver) they have looked better than us in almost every single game.

And I think our fans know it too, or they wouldn't so stridently deny it and it get angry/upset when anyone points it out.

My worry is that the very things we took advantage of to beat them twice (lack of a secondary and lack of WRs) will not be weaknesses when we face them next, but our weaknesses (lack of a OL, lack of consistency for the passing offense, and utter lack of TE depth) will still exist.

Right now, a neutral observer could certainly have made the case that the 49ers look better than us. But you could argue we did a better job against the Colts and you could certainly argue that we handled the Cardinals that they played even with for a while.

Either way, it won't matter what anyone thinks - only what the outcome of the game in SF is. I have my fingers crossed that we can beat them.

Please, no offense, but who the hell cares how we win games vs the same opponents... we are different teams and each week is going to be unique.

And who the hell cares if we don't respect the 49ers or their fans, we don't have to, their fanbase and much of their team deserve every bit of trash talk we give them on this board and else where.

If they want to act like little biznitches because their scared of our team taking their team's crown, well they should be... we were better than them last year because we younger and less experienced depending on our youth while they beat us for the division by half a game... and as I see it.. we are better than them now because we are 6-1 and they are 6-2... until the 49ers catch up to us because we faltered a game... Ill worry but right now the Seahawks know they control their own destiny... keep ahead of the 49ers and beat the Saints and the Seahawks win the NFC... something the 49ers couldn't do in the regular season last year.

I don't think they will be able to handle Percy Harvin either, they couldn't when he was in Minn and I surely doubt they will now.

Seems to me, if I recall, Percy had a field day with them.

The 49ers are easily the third best team in the conference. I see them, at worst, 12-4 with the 5th seed in the playoffs. They are huge competition and cannot be taken lightly. With that said, Kaepernick has not impressed since week 1, and I do believe we can and will beat them down in Candlestick. I can't see them winning @Saints or @us in the divisionals, though.

Playing what if's is ridiculous. If your going to say that the only reason you guys struggled offensively is because you didn't run the ball then you must also entertain the notion that we didn't let you run it. Contrary to what people think, having to account for Lynch and Wilson is a huge headache and Tate is also a match up problem. I laugh when Niner fans say Gore is as good or better than Lynch. You really think teams fear Gore like they do Lynch?? The Niners are rolling and playing great football. Part of the problem in scheming the niners is teams are having to throw their scouting books in the Garbage because they have gone from a pass happy team to a run happy team. They are going back to what made them successful. The problem I see for your team is that putting nine in a box will force your team to pass and I am sure you have noticed the niners don't pass block that well. Putting pressure on Kaepernick has lead to poor throws.

I realize most 9er fans are excited about bringing Crabtree back into the mix but he has had very little success against the Seahawks or in other words there is very little new wrinkles you are throwing at us. On the other hand, your team will have to account for Percy Harvin and no body knows how that changes our offense (including the Hawks).

In fairness to both teams it is very hard to predict how these teams match up. The Hawks played the Niners in week 2 and needless to say both clubs were very sloppy. And Hawk fans it will probably come down to us vs them to represent the NFC and this year I truly believe whoever wins will win it all. The only reason I feel confident is that you guys play the Panthers, @Saints, @Arizona and Seahawks. Our only tough games (other than time and miles) is @Niners and Saints (at home after a bye).

Yes you do, because that team is playing solid right now and is getting healthy. Also, that same team won the division the past two years. If you didn't care, you wouldn't have stopped by this thread and posted.

Just like 49ers fans care because the Seahawks have a team that is playing great this season and is the prime competition for the division. If we didn't care, than we wouldn't be here to message with you guys.

Your offense is looking anemic right now, kind of how the 49ers offense was the few weeks after the Green Bay game. You will use your run game again (how did Lynch have so few carries this week?) and we will be stronger. Personally, I just want both teams healthy running on all cylinders when our game in SF arrives so there will be no excuses no matter who the victor/loser is.
