I know that during their Super Bowl years Kubiak was Elway's QB coach (or OC) and they were about the same age. And that worked. But I have a tough time with what a younger guy like Webb is going to be able to do effectively coaching RW.

How serious is Russ going to take someone who was 17 when Russ was drafted?

Why would a scrub QB be a QB coach to anyone who is a starter? and why would they listen to them?

Super star players seldom made good coaches, often times their natural talent made things easy for them so they seldom had to struggle to learn or execute every aspect of the game. "Scrub" players on the other hand, must struggle to learn the game, over and over, and they are better teachers as they could understand why and what some players needed to learn.

I remember when John Elway’s long term back up Gary Kubiak became his QB coach and thought That's going to be a weird dynamic having somebody who could never beat you out become your new position coach

Russ was coddled in Seattle, something PC has been known to do, though it sounds like PC actually adapted a little bit, and of course each athlete is an individual. It makes sense because Russ sees himself as very important, and lets be honest he's the qb and he is, but he needs to feel supported to a degree and is coming from having a lil squad of bootlickers, honestly it says to me that no self respecting experienced NFL coach wants that position. Classic way to start out in a new career, take the job no one else wants.

It's the best job in football!

1)RCW isn't going to be worse next year.
2)Sean Payton is going to be very hands-on with RCW and the QB coach is basically going to re-inforce Sean's plans.
3)RCW, obviously (how hard do you think he lobbied for Heap?), had suggestions so hiring a no-name is Payton's first action to take control. 2 and 3 ensure Webb will always have Payton's support.
4)Webb will have access to Elway and PManning as he starts his QB Coaching career.
5)Worst-case: Payton decides to move on from Wilson, Webb is set-up to be a hero on the next guy with no blame for RCW's failure.

There's really very little chance Webb can mess this up. He just has to listen to his boss and refrain from buying into RCW's ideas and he'll be one of the next NFL coaching up-and-comers.

Cases in point: Pete Carroll. Steve Kerr.

An obscure case: Al Attles, for a couple seasons of glory and a memorable, unconventional NBA title in 1975. Recall the night that Wilt Chamberlain and Al Attles combined for 117 points as the Warriors beat the Knicks 169-147? Yeah, me neither. It may have been the same night, though that Wilt went off for 100 points.

Not a bad breakdown. Payton must have seen something he really liked with Webb that he thought would connect with Russell, to help fill in the HUGE gaps in Russell's game, e.g., reading defenses.

Turns out Webb is a coach's kid, and one of those that always saw himself as a coach after his playing days. Tidbit: da Bills had also offered Webb their QB Coach job LAST YEAR, when he was 27. Webb's lone NFL start, he went 23-40

Actually, this article breaks down what Payton liked about Webb: https://www.denverpost.com/2023/02/28/davis-webb-denver-broncos-quarterbacks-coach/
You can supply "whatever" email you choose to get past the paywall for the one story.

Another tidbit: Webb was the #3 QB for the Giants in 2017, in a preseason QB room that included Eli Manning, Geno Smith, and Josh Johnson.

Also, with Webb in the QB room, he provides a #3 QB option so the Broncos can carry only 2 QBs. Not sure how the rostering/rules work on that though. It does look like Webb is a legit NFL-backup QB, he started against the Eagles in week 17 and did well enough to keep it to a one-score game, IN Philly, with the Eagles playing their starters.

Should be FUN!
