I don't think it signals anything other than Kubiak wants his guy in there working with him.
Answers will be coming soon enough though.
Yeah, both QB coaches the Seahawks interviewed had just one thing in common: They worked with Kubiak in the past. It signals almost nothing beyond that.

If it did, the 2 starting QBs that Janocko primarily worked with under Kubiak were Kirk Cousins and Derek Carr, not exactly 'young up and comers'... but I wouldn't read anything into that, either.

I believe if he is on the roster as of March 1st he is owed X amount of guaranteed dollars. I am likely wrong on the exact date but it's around there. We will know by then
Yeah, it's the 16th, I believe, but yeah if he's still here by then it's a pretty good sign he's staying regardless.

It is kind of hard to imagine Kubiak would have done this if they planned on keeping Gediocre around, but who knows.

Prediction time! If/when Kubiak leaves to be a HC (especially if the offense performs and is solid, I'll give it two years) then they'll promote Janocko to OC to keep the system in place and from him moving on.

This is a big IF though, because obviously if the offense if a failure then it's moot.
I think all teams should do that. It’s inevitable that ocs move on if they have success so training up your own OCs should be a staple

I know you have a very myopic view RE: The Geno situation, but I'm struggling to figure out what exactly you are reading into this situation based on the completely predictable hire here.

As I mentioned before, we only had 2 reported interviews for QB coach, both of which had the only thing in common being that they worked with Kubiak in the past. Why would Kubiak NOT hire one of his guys to be his QB coach if Geno is staying around? Does that mean he'd want to work with a stranger for some reason?

As I also noted, the 2 starting QBs that Janocko worked with Kubiak before were Cousins and Carr, two older vet QBs, not rookies or QBOTFs.

Finally, this guy wasn't likely to even have a job in New Orleans in a week. Kubiak has a guy who he likes to work with, who is about to need a job. Do you really think Janocko would have been like 'Nah, I'd rather be unemployed unless you can promise me Geno Smith is leaving'...?

Continuity. But hey, thanks for your condescension.

If my post came across like I was condescending, then I apologize. I do, in fact, want to understand what your point is here.

Even this answer 'Continuity', I honestly have no idea what point you're making. I still don't understand why you are saying Kubiak wouldn't bring in a QB coach he's worked with in the past--typically with vet QBs--to work with another vet QB.

Geno stays, Geno doesn't... what hiring choice do you see Kubiak doing differently in these situations?

Apology accepted, thank you. I have no idea what choice he would make differently. It just seemed like it wouldn't be in Geno's best interest to keep switching coaches. It isn't unreasonable to insinuate maybe they want to move on from Geno, given that continuity doesn't seem to be a concern. But as I said, who knows.

I normally have a lot of faith in their decisions, but this past decade of mediocrity and perpetual purgatory has me second guessing them. I'm just so tired of the same thing year after year. I barely even watch the games now. It almost seems pointless because nothing ever changes. And if wanting to break this cycle of mediocrity with a qb change makes me myopic, so be it. I don't care. I really don't think they will be successful until they do.

I can see why they would move on, and I can see why they would keep Geno. Both have merit.

Well, Charles London doesn't have much of a track record at QB coach, no affiliation with Macdonald or Kubiak, and he already got snatched up by another team, so it was going to be a new QB coach regardless and I'd have simply been shocked to see anyone who wasn't already a previous Kubiak guy get the spot (and since we only ever heard about them interviewing previous Kubiak guys, the writing seemed on the wall).

They do, but I don't think this coaching move (or any of the coaching moves they've made so far) suggest which way they are going.

The primary factors that are going to determine whether they keep Geno on, I think, are all contract related: Money and guarantees. Geno's cap hit needs to come down at least $10M or so, not a crazy amount, so I don't think the money is really going to be the big sticking point.

The big thing is going to be years. I don't think the Seahawks would want to extend him more than like 2 years past next season and their going to want their outs, probably with zero guaranteed money in 2027 and the amount guaranteed in 2026 to not be so prohibitive that they can't justify cutting him if some QB they draft this year balls out and they decide to start him.

I think Geno's going to want like a 4-year deal with some guarantees because this is likely his last big contract in the NFL. So, we'll see if Pittsburgh or Las Vegas or somebody is willing to give him that stuff. I feel like he's likely to just be back here with a contract more like what the Seahawks will want but with some incentives tied in (like his last one) to give him the possibility of making a big payday.

We'll see.
