Apology accepted, thank you. I have no idea what choice he would make differently. It just seemed like it wouldn't be in Geno's best interest to keep switching coaches. It isn't unreasonable to insinuate maybe they want to move on from Geno, given that continuity doesn't seem to be a concern. But as I said, who knows.
I normally have a lot of faith in their decisions, but this past decade of mediocrity and perpetual purgatory has me second guessing them. I'm just so tired of the same thing year after year. I barely even watch the games now. It almost seems pointless because nothing ever changes. And if wanting to break this cycle of mediocrity with a qb change makes me myopic, so be it. I don't care. I really don't think they will be successful until they do.
Well, Charles London doesn't have much of a track record at QB coach, no affiliation with Macdonald or Kubiak, and he already got snatched up by another team, so it was going to be a new QB coach regardless and I'd have simply been shocked to see anyone who wasn't already a previous Kubiak guy get the spot (and since we only ever heard about them interviewing previous Kubiak guys, the writing seemed on the wall).
I can see why they would move on, and I can see why they would keep Geno. Both have merit.
They do, but I don't think this coaching move (or any of the coaching moves they've made so far) suggest which way they are going.
The primary factors that are going to determine whether they keep Geno on, I think, are all contract related: Money and guarantees. Geno's cap hit needs to come down at least $10M or so, not a crazy amount, so I don't think the money is really going to be the big sticking point.
The big thing is going to be years. I don't think the Seahawks would want to extend him more than like 2 years past next season and their going to want their outs, probably with zero guaranteed money in 2027 and the amount guaranteed in 2026 to not be so prohibitive that they can't justify cutting him if some QB they draft this year balls out and they decide to start him.
I think Geno's going to want like a 4-year deal with some guarantees because this is likely his last big contract in the NFL. So, we'll see if Pittsburgh or Las Vegas or somebody is willing to give him that stuff. I feel like he's likely to just be back here with a contract more like what the Seahawks will want but with some incentives tied in (like his last one) to give him the possibility of making a big payday.
We'll see.
