WE shall see.

If Seattle wins, it will be a close one. On the other hand, SF can blow their doors off if they get a double digit lead and force Seattle to throw every down to catch up. Their pass rush is too fierce.

If.....the defensive tackles can keep the linebackers clean, Seattle can mitigate the SF run game. McDougald can't miss tackles in space though. The speed of the Niner running backs demands it.

Keep the score close and Russell has a shot to win it in the end.

Reading through this thread shows the incredible delusion in our fanbase. While I think we can beat the 49ers b/c of Wilson + Pete its so hard to believe that people with two eyes can watch the 49ers and the seahawks and actually think the seahawks have been playing better.

We have seen this trend for 9 years, slow build and momentum build till the second half of the season, we rise as the season progresses and try to peak by week 16.

We look UGLY for like 12 weeks every year but squeak out wins.

You should reread it then. For me it was not better or not. It was better and it's not even close.

They are playing better on defense. They are not on offense or ST. The rankings shows us better in both. Anyone with eyes can see the difference in style in the way the teams play. We have a HC who wants close games. So we will not look like other teams. They have a better defense no doubt. But we have a better offense and ST. If all you care about is who has the better defense yeah okay. But it takes all 3 to win and we are better in 2 of the 3.

Yeah, it's happened. Rams used to do it all the time under Fisher. 2016 against Tampa. Doesn't happen often, but if anyone's going to do it, it'll probably be SF.
I'd say if we had a different offensive coordinator at the time, he wouldn't have been "shutdown" as much. That being said, even Joe Montana had a number of absolute stinkers. No one's infallible for a whole career. That said, Russell's on pace to smoke Joe Cool in basically every way, lol. You can argue some of these a bit due to differences in the passing rules from then to now, but you can't use it to write Wilson off.

Lol you brush thier defense off like its nothing. They have the 2nd best defense in the NFL. The disparity between our defenses is a whole lot bigger than the disparity between our offense. They also have a more efficient run game and offensive line than we do. They DOMINATE time of possession. They are playing Pete ball at its finest. This is how our HC wants to win games. Pete wants ball control, TOP and defense. Our HC does not come into games intending to play ugly tight games. If anything our new style of football is uncomfortable for Pete. He has never wanted the QB to have this much reign in his offense.

What rankings are you looking at that has our team ranked higher than the 49ers? DVOA has the 49ers as the #2 team in team efficiency.

If Wilson works his magic and beats the Niners on MNF. Just give him the MVP right then & there.

The Niners are built to beat the Hawks. A fierce D-Line, a running game, and short quick passes that will eat up Seattle's soft zone coverage underneath. Oh yeah, and they have Kittle who can work the seam when he is matched up with such stalwarts as Tedric Thompson & Bradley McDougald.

Gotta hope Jimmy chokes under the bright lights, and Wilson puts on a helluva magic show to win this upcoming matchup come Nov 11th.

And you brush off our offense like it is nothing. They have faced only 1 offense ranked higher than ours and did so when they were without their pro bowl RB. As to what ranking ESPN. FYI Pete has said he wants to keep it close and win in the 4th. He has said it many times. FYI SF is ranked 12th in DVOA, we are 3rd. https://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/teamoff/2019

That on offense which has been my point. SF wins defense, we fi. Offense and ST by ESPN. By footballoutsiders SF wins Defense, we win Offense, and ST is a wash within 2 spots. So again this not notbequal to SF being better and it's not close.

why are we talking about offensive rankings? the question was which TEAM is better. I'm not talking about offense I'm talking about teams as a whole. I know our offense is better I never argued this at all. DVOA has SF ranked as the #2 team in efficiency right now. No one has us ranked higher than the 49ers. But then again this is why we are fans lol. We will just have to disagree to agree. They are playing defense and ball control. This is how you keep offenses like mahomes and Wilson off the field. You've seen this for years because we did this. Its a winning strategy.

They are going to be a tough opponent and I have a hunch our division is going to be decided on the very last game of the season. regardless this is one of the most exciting seasons we've had in a while.

Well, the all the sudden crowned champion 49ers have the tough task of playing the Redskins next, so I'm sure the fear and worship will continue.

Meh, it's mid-October, plenty to be decided by the end of the year.

I feel like if you guys beat the 9ers in a few weeks you're going to be excited and eager to rub it in.

Nobody has been excited to beat the 9ers for years now.

That's sincerely good enough for me.

I see a split, home team winning both.

Yeah.

If there was even money on EITHER team going 2-0 or a 1-1 split, I'd still probably take the split at this point.

Lots of reasons for that, but probably the topic for another thread.

I too am thinking we split the games, BUT more important to me is the issue of momentum going into the playoffs and home field advantage.

If I had to chose which regular season game to win I don't know which one I'd chose (obviously I'd like to win them both)? If we win the fist match up and lose the second, does that give us a chip on our shoulder heading into the playoffs or does it give them momentum?

That topic fits this thread just fine.

No more whiner threads please!! :49ersmall: :49ersmall: :49ersmall: :177692:

Niners look an awful lot like we did in 2012. That defense is just dominant right now. IMO, the best in the league and by a pretty good margin. Basically they and NE are in a class entirely by themselves and NE is the beneficiary of just playing grossly incompetent opposition almost every week (save Buffalo). SFs rushing attack is just filthy, physical and punishing.

They look to be in a class where we are not. And it appears that they are not done peaking. Looks like they are cultivating a swagger and expectation we developed in 2012/13.

Funny, that both sides seem to think 1-1 is an outcome we'd accept. But honestly, I suspect that on the niners' side, that's a byproduct of what Wilson has done against them for years. This niner team doesn't look like the same team they've rolled out in 2017/18. They look a lot hungrier and dominant.

Short answer:
Yes, but we can still beat them.

Long answer:
This is basically us vs the Packers in the past. And it can go either way, that Packer playoff game required a crazy onside kick.

On one hand, you have an amazing defense, exceptionally good run game, and QB who just tries to keep the chains moving. (Great defense, good offense that is fed by the defense.)

The other you have a team with almost no discernable defense (or at least a key weakness here) but a QB that can literally win games on his own. We are pretty much what the Packers were, though we do have a much better run game. (Great offense, no defense.)

The rules of the NFL are tilted firmly in favor of the QB, so our team has an advantage there. But our team also has a coach that will play it so safe that he keeps teams in games (I think we rate in the top 3 in the 'cowardly punts' stat).

As a team, I don't think you can dispute that the 49ers are leagues better, and their OC/DC combination beats ours by a wide margin. Also, they have a much better gameday coach. But we do have a QB that is a wildcard, he can beat any team just by playing outside the playcalls and the script.

That kind of advantage will win you 1 game out of 3 even when you are at a disadvantage. So yes they are better but might be able to split with them, and since Wilson escalates his game in the playoffs - we might even be able to win that one as well but we could also end up getting shelled.

The Game is weeks away, lots can happen between now and then, not going to let them get in my head like it appears they have to many here already.

Week at a time and see where the cards lie when they are next up on the schedule.
