Are Brock Purdy’s day in SF numbered?

Will be interesting to see how the cap hits march out. Niners play the cap game well. I’m guessing two more years of reasonable cap damages before they actually start feeling the contract, but it will depend on how they structured the cap hits for other players.

I am shocked 😮. I was thinking the 9ers would have waited for at least for July camp to see how Mac Jones does in the system he would have been the business decision

May be York, Lynch, and Shanakan were shell shocked when Darnold signed with the Hawks on a discount.

Purdy is the best QB in the NFC, although I suspect Daniels could pass him in the near future. I wish having to pay him was our "problem". He's legitimately great, if not elite.
I think purdy is about 85% elite. He still has moments where he is not the best player on the field. I don’t think I’d take him over, Jalen hurts, Caleb Williams (not sure), you said Daniel’s already, baker mayfield (maybe), Michael penix (probably favoritism), Matt Stafford, dak (Enh)…

Would you trade purdy straight across for Darnold?

I think that would be a trade we might regret. LOL

I am not certain that Purdy could survive without Shannahan.

He might end up looking like Mr. Irrelevant as he should've been when he was drafted.

But on the flipside, Darnold CAN survive without Kevin O' Connell.

How do I know this? Go back as far as his last season with the Panthers where he went 4-2 as a QB on a team that only had DJ Moore on it as his WR.

Excluding the final game against the Saints on January 8, 2023 (where it was the worst game of any QB's career...though he won that somehow) that severely dropped his overall stats, Sam Darnold's 2022 stats with the Carolina Panthers over those other 5 games were:

  • Passing: 77 completions, 125 attempts, 61.6% completion rate, 1,100 yards, 7 touchdowns, 1 interception, 103.3 passer rating
  • Rushing: 24 carries, 95 yards, 2 touchdowns
No Jefferson. No Addison. No Hockenson. No Kevin O' Connell.

(Of course, to be fair, the running game of that panthers team during that stretch was pretty solid so hopefully the Hawks Running game is on-point as well)

I am glad you are looking at the stats objectively.

Reason I left that out is because that last game meant NOTHING.

Whereas the games before, Darnold and the Panthers were in an unlikely playoff chase.

Once they lost Game 5 of that 4-1 stretch (thus eliminating the Panthers from the playoff chase), everyone basically packed it in for Game 6.

My aim was to illustrate that Sam Darnold had a stretch during games that actually MATTERED where he played well.

Sorry that my exclusion of the last game is triggering you so much.

Here's some advice :

If you don't like what I'm selling, there's an ignore feature.

Otherwise, kindly not reply, Mr. "Person coming out of the woodwork to criticize".
