So far the 9ers haven't signed Purdy to a contract extension which sends a very bad message to your QB going into his last season as a lame duck. It wouldn’t surprise me that Shanahan has so much confidence in his system he can make it work

It will be an interesting story to follow

I was a little worried the Niners were gonna nab Shaduer and let Purdy walk. Purdy is a solid guy when he's got a great team around him but once he get paid and you can't pay the other guys I'm not sure he's gonna carry a team on his back.

I saw the Niners extended Kittle, making him the highest paid TE again.
I have to wonder that Purdy contract ext is dead.

They're between a rock and a hard spot with him. They have to sign him (at or near market rate), but there are legitimate questions about his ability to operate in weather conditions and/or without an elite supporting cast. He only went for 3800/20 TD's last year. I genuinely don't mind them locking him down.

Both these contracts were expected this offseason
That may of been the assumed plan to the people including 9er fans looking from the outside until they drafted a Purdy clone. I will guess that the 9ers brass will hold off on a decision until Shanahan decides on Rourkes potential even.

It makes good business sense to pay Rourke south of $1 million vs north of $40 million AAV for Purdy
