I noticed the 9ers drafted QB Kurtis Rourke in the 7th rd who is taller than Purdy but has a similar skill set. Purdy is in the last year of his rookie contract

My guess is the 49ers plan to get Rourke coached up and let Purdy walk in 2026 and have Rourke take over

I would be surprised if the 9ers could get any trade value for Purdy

Purdy isn't worth anywhere near what he's hoping to get, but the niners had no leverage to force his team to come down. They can't rely on a 7th rounder to come in and replace him, though.

How many 7th round QBs are starting in the NFL? I haven't looked into it, but I think the odds are pretty good Purdy is the only one.

Barring injury, the odds of Purdy back in the Superbowl are better than this 7th rounder taking his spot.

But it's the NFL, and strange things happen from time to time.

That would be expecting lightning to strike twice at the QB position which is a fireable offense in this league. 9ers are going to have to pay Purdy, period.

Purdy's value is directly proportional to the offensive weapons available to him.

When CMC, Aiyuk, Deebo, Jennings, Kittle and Juszczyk are/were all available to him, his value to the 40-Whiners is approaching $50M/year.

But start taking away CMC, Deebo, Aiyuk and Kittle due to injury and/or trade/cut, his value drops significantly because he doesn't have the running game and YAC from his WRs and Kittle to sustain drives and score TDs.

Put Purdy on a team with typical RB, TE and WR groups, he's not close to being worth $50M/year... but rather more like $30-$35M/year imo.

I believe that the way that 40-Whiners management is looking at Purdy's situation.

You can say the same for Geno Smith. Without DK Lockett and JSN and Fant and our RBs he’s worth 25 mill

If they were planning on getting a starter for 2026 they would have drafted a lot higher than the 7th round. Sur eit is possible he could ouplay Purdy, or at least be close enough that he is better value but it is unlikely.

I think a more likely scenario is they are looking for a back-up with a similar skill set to Purdy so if Purdy gets injured they can use all the same plays and it is easy for the rest of the offence t oadapt to the new QB.

Or maybe 6 beers deep and threw a dart on a board, just like they did with purdy

Or how about any QB. Take away all the star skill players and even the best of them aren't going to look great very often.

I don’t have a link but I read that the analytics on Kurtis Rourke indicated he could potentially have the highest ceiling from the draft (qb). It’s always a rolling of the dice.
