Anyone Else Frustrated By This?

Disclaimer:. With this post I'm not dissing the player or saying that i fully expected this kind of play to unfold... So ultimately I'm more pissed at fate than irvin.

Anyone else a little frustrated that at the end of regulation, with the Bengals having no time outs, and dalton amazingly not throwing the ball away, that the golden opportunity of the clock running out didn't transpire?.

Imo, irvin should have wrapped up dalton and even toyed with him on the tackle, keeping him on his feet for a few seconds. Then tackle him and intentionally lay on him an extra second or two. Just a little smarter situational football cause in that circumstance the big pop means absolutely nothing.

Could have taken them down to literally the last second to get the fg team on.

There are rules against that and he could have been flagged for delay of game. But yes, a little more scramble could have been nice . . . or it could have meant a completed pass for a touchdown.

You made a good point.Just laying on him a second or two could have made a difference.

HawkGA-. I don't see it like that. Dalton was clearly running and not looking for a receiver anymore. Irvin had him dead to rights. A simple wrap up and then try to force him backwards would be ideal. Two seconds before the refs blow progress stopped... Then the time for spotting etc. A smart veteran could have made this way closer imo. And a penalty means what there,?. A twenty yarder instead of thirty?. Better to try to get away with it imo if you can't do it subtly enough.

Irvin was trying to knock the ball out. He was hoping a huge hit from behind would jar it loose, but Dalton was able to keep control.

Im surprise Dalton held on too that ball. That was a huge blind hit by Irvin. After that play, it was almost meant for the Bengals to win this game. Hopefully this is a huge slap in the face to wake the Hawks up.

And that just seems too '' Ricardo lockette school of football'' to me. The only way that would even possibly happen is to hit head on. Just body popping from kind of sideways and behind the runner is love tap in the nfl.

No I wasn't frustrated by our D resorting to shenanigans to bleed the clock.

But I was frustrated by the D crapping the bed in the 4th quarter again giving up big play after big play making the same stupid miscommunication and coverage mistakes.

I'm not EXACTLY disagreeing about your utter outrage of the defense throughout the site. Definitely some major major mistakes.

Just remember through all of it the offense had 17 points.

The bears put up 18 at Arrowhead.
San Fran put up 27 in New York.

If you think busting out the pitchforks and mobbing the defense will fix everything, I'm not gonna say they don't deserve a big ole ass kick.

I just think if the offense gets two more first downs in the fourth quarter anytime, we all sleep soundly and optimistically after a win. But the current state of the Seattle bevells is near flatline.

BUT we've committed the large majority of our cap to the D, so I expect them to be a top 5 elite D. Period, end of story.

I've got no problem with that analysis. I just think that the offense in their 20 percentile is the easiest to rectify. Played a great nearly three quarters and then inexplicably completely crapped the bed, to borrow your expression.

I personally just think the defense got exposed. Sherman really wasn't ever true lockdown. But that's how we paid him. Dez got him. Odb got him. Hell nick foles went right at him. Yesterday he slowed aj but couldn't cinch him up in critical plays. Honestly i always thought kam was a little vulnerable in coverage, but hes just the most opportunistic SS out there, be it with a big hit or big pick. Williams got owned all day. Earl just looks a milli second slower in coverages to me, but had the great pick.

I guess i just feel they didn't warrant their paydays but likewise they did at least play well enough to get the W. The offense dropped off the face of the earth. The defense at least made the Bengals work, ie, eiferts incredible catch.

But my original point being, haven't we seen our two minute hurry up severely stalled because russ gets sacked or tackled and it takes like three seconds just to unpile them?. Seems scored in my memory. The odds that Dalton just doesn't throw that away and actually tries to run with no chance at all of scoring are so astronomical, it's a Damn shame we didn't try to capitalize. Not shenanigans at all. Damn smart football.
