Pretty sure he coined the nickname himself. He's at least referred to himself as such in the past.

I'm not sure if that's true or not. But I hear it every time on radio, I think Bob and Groz show, and every time I hear it they are using it in a demeaning way. In order to devalue his opinion kind of way. And it irks me.

I wish people would stop referring to him as "angry Doug Baldwin." It has connotations of "angry black man" and is used to devalue the opinion. As if it's not based on reason/logic and instead is based on emotions and bias. Believe me, I'm not saying anyone who uses the term even has a shred of racism in their body, I just don't like the term and that's the reason why.

That said, I love Doug Baldwin. All he says above is correct. Except for the fact that there is nothing wrong with it. The NFL is not wrong to look out for their own self interest (the owners). The media is not wrong for looking out for their own self-interest. And players are defnitely not wrong for looking out for their own self interest. That's the way this great world is set up --people look out for their own self interest. That's why it's key that the government is set up to be a night watchmen, making sure there is transparancy and THE RULE OF LAW instead of the rule of man. That certain people shouldn't get an unfair advantage (namely running to the government and having them FORCE others against their will). But I'm digressing.

PC runs amok. ADB uses the nickname himself.

Another poster said he came up with it himself (Baldwin did). That's fine, but it still bugs me. It's irrelevant who came up with it, it's used as an ad hominum attack (the man's opinion is based on emotion versus reason). And I'm the last person who is PC.

How is anything I said hypocritical? Not once did I say he shouldn't of said that, I simply don't agree with what he said. He's making great money playing a game, how much better does life get? But I'm the devil for pointing that out lol. K.

I'm not mad about anything, I think this is all borderline hilarious. It's like I'm talking about people's gfs.

Just my opinion, but Doug Baldwin sounds much more intelligent than you do. Maybe that has something to do with the fact that he has his B.A. from Stanford and had a 4.0 GPA in high school. That allows him to know the difference between "of" and "have." I think some of the issues he is discussing are way over your head.

^athletes are some of the most self entitled people in the world. Don't want to be scouted? Don't play sports in hs. Don't want to be a product and scouted more? Use that FREE college education and get a normal job. Don't want to be under the microscope of all those things? Don't get rich playing football. It's called wanting your cake and eating it too.

Feel so extremely sorry for you Doug, you're life must be a complete let down now that you know that the business side is what's allowing you to play a game for a living. God help him get through this tough time in his life. Imagine waking up and realizing how insignificant you really are, wow, playing football such honor. You would think he just got back from a tour in the middle east, not winning a superbowl. He is like sherman trying to come up with all this profound stuff to say, unfortunately he's not nearly as smart.

I hope he cries himself to sleep tonight.

You are mistaking Baldwin's commentary as "self entitled" and unwilling to "be under the microscope." When in reality, Baldwin is criticizing the false assumptions made by the media, in particular by certain draft pundits.

I get what he's saying, but honestly don't understand players beef with the league being focused on promoting their product. Without the league, their network and ESPN making money, he doesn't make money.

Is the combine a little silly? Sure. But, you know what, it's got people talking football in late February. Then we're into free agent season, then the draft, then camps. The NFL has made itself into a year round sport. All the while, Mel Kiper & Todd McShay & Adam Schefter & John Clayton & Jon Gruden will be giving us their opinions because the coverage is what people want.

This is the kind of stuff that allows Doug Baldwin to make $400-whatever-K a year.

Where is my "shaking head in disbelief" emoticon at?

I wonder if some of the ranting is a therapy of sorts. It has to have a purpose, nobody throws caution to the wind on Twitter like that, ever...

See? When someone else gets fired up, they're stupid for being 40 and getting mad on a message board.

When he does it, it's brave.

Brave? Lol. I'm sorry I made a joke after being called a twat. I'll leave this thread so you guys can defend dbs honor in peace.

You're going to do more than leave this thread, brah.

He's not bashing the idea of scouting. He's saying the combine is a circus that's put on primarily for entertainment purposes. The measurables that come out of it only tell a small part of the story. I think even most GMs would agree with this. I believe JS even said yesterday that the player interviews were more important than their combine performance.

Everything he bashed is essentially what pays his bills. It's not A matter of him being wrong, but it's just ignorant really. He doesn't like the media cause they clown him, he didn't specifically say that but that's what a lot of it comes down to, dudes just a cry baby. I'm glad he's on our team and all but I'm just being 100.

The Combine doesn't pay his bills. I suspect the Combine diminished his value because it does little in taking into account the things that aren't easily measurable. What he seems to be saying is that people, fans, GM etc., should not forget that these athletes are not simply a 40 time, or a vertical jump, but something more. For example, how would Steve Largent have done in the combine? Or Dave Krieg?

All of this nattering simply misleads and it does so for the entertainment value. So that people have raw material for their mock draft and later for their fantasy football games.

The reality is something different and people should not get seduced by this stuff.

Best summary and explanation on this subject yet

With all respect, I don't think there's anything funny about the combine. Firemen, cops etc must pass physical and mental exams be fore being deemed eligible for hire. Football is typically much more demanding than those occupations, at least for short periods. And the employees of the NFL definitely make more money. The employers have a right to know whether or not their new employee can stand up to the rigors of the job.

Further, the combine is like the ultimate physical exam. Many young athletes have learned of physical impairments while at the combine that might have later killed them had they not found out.

But OT, I am anti twitter for athletes. Doug presents himself well, but these guys don't always scholarship at Stanford. I am all about free speech but believe sometimes these guys do harm to themselves. I never would have known our own Percy spells the word have.. h a l f. I didn't need to know that. LOL.

In all, I was very happy to read Doug's msgs today. I was concerned Angry Doug may now be less angry. But I see that is not the case. ; ) Keep that chip mofo!

I love me some ADB, but I'm kind of surprised he didn't realize this until now.

I'm pretty sure he had an idea, but the circus frenzy of SB media week and some of the now-champion FA's possibly leaving the team for money over success probably blew it wide open for him.
