Chronological order, each quote is a seperate tweet:

Imma go on a lil rant real quick
The more I sit back and observe everything that has to do with the NFL the more I realize it’s just an entertainment business.
I was so caught up in trying to make football at this level purely football. But when I look around me, it’s nothing, NOTHING but a business
Understandably so. But I want to inform you, the fans. Don’t be sucked in to ESPN, NFL Network and all these money making media outlets.
Their singular purpose is to entertain you. Make you think something is important when it really isn’t. It’s not for news, it’s for ratings.
They want you to be sucked into their opinions. Why? That pushes their brand and eventually makes them money at some level.
I’m asking you, the fans, to be informed. Do your own thinking. They will say a guy is too short to play QB… he’ll win a SuperBowl.
They will say he’s too small to play linebacker. He’ll make an interception for a touchdown in this biggest stage the game has to offer.
They will say he is too tall to play corner, not quick enough, not smart enough… and become the best corner in the game.
They will say he can’t because of this, he can’t because of that… and they will continue to be wrong… Why? Because they are human.
They want to look at the 40. The shuttle. They broad jump. The vertical jump. All of these measurables. But they will continue to miss. Why?
Because you can not measure the Heart, Passion and Relentlessness to be great that someone has deep down in their soul.
So while these pundits and so-called expert analyst fill the air with their irrelevant jargon, realize they are talking about PEOPLE.
Realize these people are not just items to be shown off at the combine to be auctioned off to the highest bidder. Didn’t think about that….
Because at the end of the day, the players are all expendable. The only thing that matters to the NFL is the brand of NFL.
So don’t get mad when players are deemed ‘selfish’ or ‘not about the team.’ They wouldn’t be at this level if that was the case.
In a business that is geared to protecting itself, how could you blame the players who put their bodies on the line for doing the same?
Just remember that. 100.
Now time for breakfast. Lol

If I were to be completely honest I'd have to admit that I sometimes think Doug sounds like a premenstrual teen. Let's too much bother him.

That said, best pedestrian WR I've had the pleasure of cheering for so, carry on, Doug.

Love ADB and his eloquence is a nice change from a lot of professional athletes. He's right about it being a business, and about sports media being all about furthering their own agenda, although that part isn't really that much of an indictment.

Sports media does have an interest in being accurate though, and they know it. It's why Dilfer was so contrite after the Hawks pistol-whipped the Saints. Looking like idiots damages their brand.

Besides, it isn't just ESPN that pans athletes without measurables. It's GMs who look at the shuttle, the broad-jump, the vertical and it's GMs whose jobs are on the lines who attach significance to these things. Because they are significant.

Pete and JS have feasted off of players because A) JS is a savant, and B) Pete is a savant who knows EXACTLY what he's looking for and what types of measurables he needs, and what measurables aren't as important because he can coach players up in his system.

But your mere mortal GM/coach combo can't follow that blueprint. I laugh at folks talking about following the Seahawks blueprint. Good luck with that. "It's easy, just hit paydirt on all your picks that come in rounds 3-7". Uh...okay I'll get right on that.

Mortal coaches/GMs *can* have success, however, following the less-awesome formula of doing okay with high-round players, avoiding players in the CFL and who weren't drafted, and paying attention to measurables. Holmgren wasn't a savant in the later rounds but he built a Superbowl team.

And Doug's reaching a little with his talk about how NFL analysts are talking about pieces of meat and not looking at the soul of players. That's what employers care about; how you can help their team. Employers don't go to Monster.com and look at your soul. They filter you out based on degrees held, past experience, performance. In the NFL the measurables happen to by physical so yes, players get prodded and poked. That isn't evidence of some grand inhumanity. That's evidence of playing a sport in the physical realm.

Since the RRR I've only referred to Doug Baldwin as Angry Doug Baldwin or "ADB" and I will continue to do so because the dude is all about the truth. ADB is da man.

We already knew everything he said. If you watched any media before the SB then you know, if you didn't already.

So basically he's saying that football analysts in the medial aren't entitled for form or express their own opinions on players/prospects, and that the entire concept of scouting and player analysis is a farce.

Sorry, Doug, but that was a pretty silly rant.

Even the media is in on the money making end of the NFL. It sells copies and gets people to click links.

Doug is 100% correct.

He is 100% right...

I wonder if the Sidney Rice news had something to do with this rant

I think the issue with the first contract rookies here with the Seahawks is the they didn't understand why they were relegated irrelevant because they played in the PNW. Take those same players and put them on the glamour teams in other markets and the push-back probably isn't as harsh.

If Sherman, Kam, Earl, Tate and others played for the Patriots, NY Giants, Cowboys etc, they probably aren't the same players they are here. It was a perfect storm for them. Highly talented but doubted no matter what they showed because Seattle just didn't have the cache to be taken serious. Even as things began to change, it was hard to seriously pump these players up on the major Networks. The LOB got love but mainly due to their brashness.

If Doug is playing for the Pats, Colts or a few other squads, he is probably getting a lot more love. I have no qualms with his take on things. I do think though the root of the disdain is due to his unfortunate luck of doing it while playing for a team that was an after-thought until the NFL world had to grudgingly take notice.

I love ADB, the guy STILL has a huge chip on his shoulder and his passion is so strong! :th2thumbs:

As for the whiner troll, someone needs to remind that twerp that no one cares about 2 decades old trophies......as Rice, Montana, Young, Craig, etc etc don't play for them anymore. They had their chance in last year's SB and FAILED!

Of course he's right, but I think there's more to the NFL than money and entertainment, it's just hard to see that when you're on the inside.
