Even if RW has shown a tendency to overthrow going back to last year's preseason...he's also shown the ability to dial-in and self-correct whatever the issue. Aside, a few of his throws showed absolute gorgeous placement. If anything, he just needs to get back into the regular season groove of gameplanning and playing four quarters.

I'm not worried about Wilson's overthrows this game, but I don't expect him to completely fix that part of his game, either. Every thrower of a ball has his tendencies for when they miss and Wilson's seems to be missing high.

Part of that is the timing with the receivers which can be improved over time. A couple of plays by Wilson to Willson seemed to be just a matter of a quarterback and receiver not on the same page.

The other part of it is mechanics, which are already damn near perfect in Wilson's case. He's got a great high release, over-the-top throwing motions which allows him to play bigger then he is and also have some amazing straight-line accuracy, but it also demands a near perfect release point. One split second too early of a release and you tend to get the ball sailing high.

-- I know that teams are vanilla in their game planning for preseason but there comes a point that I want to still see a hint of a pass rush out of our first unit. I get that you are going against one of the best offenses in Manning and the Broncos, and certainly I understand we are short staffed, but still...Give me SOMETHING to believe we are a defense worthy of a Top 5 ranking in that regard.

We were without our top 3 pass rushers in Clemons, Irvin, and Avril. We weren't running anything exotic or complex by design, either.

-- A guy I have been sitting next to for many years (fellow season ticket holder) made a comment tonight that had me thinking. He said that he thinks quite strongly in fact that coaches will call up each other and say something to the effect of "Hey, how about you keep your fellas off our QB and we will do the same?" Before you laugh, he's the son of a man who is very high up in the Seahawks organization and while I am not saying that means he must be right, it is awfully interesting and something I could easily see as being the case.

I'm too lazy to go find it, but I was listening to a Holmgren segment on KJR before the Chargers game, and he was asked if coaches talk with each other and make gentleman's agreements before the game, like 'hey we're going no huddle for the first half, playing starters until such and such point, etc etc. Mike in so many words said that coaches most definitely do that, at least if they know each other and are friends. They just can't ever cop to it because they'd be in trouble with the commish.

Heading into the game our top outside pass rusher was Benson Mayowa, a UDFA from Idaho, meaning we need our reinforcements back. I'm hoping Avril is healthy and ready to go by week one.

I'm not jumping on that Thurmond train until I see him consistently cover. A pass breakup was a nice first step, but he has a lot to prove. I don't see the tight coverage some speak of.

Thurmond had one tipped ball where he was totally out of position on his own man. He looked poor last night, but wasn't picked on like he was last week. Calling him a "beast" is flat out hilarious. He played as an extra DB in the 2nd quarter, and then did nothing but tip one pass when put into the 1/2 corner positions. He looked confused, a step slow, and was off of his guy, or had his back turned several times.

It was a better showing for Thurmond, but really... could it have been any worse than last week? That was abysmal.

I agree that Thurmond struggled the previous week and that his play last night was up and down. But on that particular play (3rd down PD), I thought he was textbook. He was about as close in coverage as you can get without risking illegal contact, he swatted the ball down, and that ball he swatted down was a perfectly placed pass btw. Had it been just a tiny bit behind the WR, Thurmond probably would have had a pick. I thought it was a great play.

Walter has a fair amount of rust after being injured for so long. He showed improvement over the previous week. Hopefully that trend continues.

I forgot how fast Thurmond was. He has the physical tools of a Top 10 NFL corner.

RW sailed a few last week too.

No way Thurmond is better than Browner. Thurmond was leaving people open all night.

I don't know.... it's tough to get a pass rush when you don't have Clemons, Irvin, or Avril in there. That IS our pass rush. And Bennett wasn't playing the whole game either. So to be concerned about the pass rush at this point seems kind of pointless. Although it is true we do not know Clemons time table, and Bruce will be missing the first 4 games. But still.... we are missing a lot of pieces to the puzzle currently.

Russ was overthrowing... Thurmond comment is crazy... He is a beast and was projectd first rounder if werent for injury... He played great today and despite browners stellar play thurmonds coverage is tighter and he stops the ball from even getting to the receiver while browner makes great contact/plays after receptions.. Id rather have the prior.. Great problem to havr tho.. Each will accel in differeny matchups and pretty mich no oyher team has tgat luxury.

Stopped reading afyer you dismissed thurmonds stellar play because browner had a strip on a reception he allowed and he ran back a fumble someobe else caused......

Sorry but there's nothing crazy about it. Thurmond is no beast. he's good.

But the comment wasn't crazy. Brandon Browners job is secure.

Thurmond made a nice hit on a K.O. return as well. Man we have some depth going on over here.

It is a great problem to have and Ima likin' it. :179417:

I see Thurmond as in a battle with Winfield. I would like to see Winfield get some reps at FS.

I think he could backup there as well. We have crazy depth

My take on Thurmond is this.
How many people have been as injury prone as him that are still on this team.
For as many years as its been he is still here. To me that means the POTENTIAL of walter is high enough to
hang on to him for 3 years of injuries.

Remember he was a starter here once. before Sherman, and played opposite of browner before the wind blew and hurt him.
hahah

I think all our db's bring something unique. I think this is Thurmond's last year to prove he is a top nfl corner.

Go look at the box score at espn.com if you think we played poorly we were better than Denver in almost every category. If it wasn't for the penalties that butt kicking would have been worse.

Speaking of the pass rush, is Irvin injured or something? I haven't heard anything in regards to an injury. I know he is suspended for the first four regular season games. Just curious as to why he hasn't played in the preseason yet.

If Thurmond is such a beast, why did he bounce right off of Damyrius Thomas like a little girl ? Serioulsy, Thomas didn't even slow down or lose a step. And that was Thurmond's guy on a switch...Browner had good coverage on the trade off, and Thurmond didn't pick up Thomas fast enough. He also didn't have very tight coverage in the San Diego game.

I like Thurmond, but he isn't playing as well as they claimed his TC was going. He's nowhere near the CB Browner is at this point.
