This. When you can't game plan for a 1 yard gain, you got problems. It showed a lack of confidence.

You make a couple excellent points. It's always about context. We were getting our arses kicked in just about every key stat category the whole game. If it wasn't for two blown FG's and two INT's, we wouldn't even be having this discussion. Yet, in spite of it all, we had a chance there to come close to putting the game away. You take that chance.
I would say for a kicker like Meyers, no, it should not make that much of a difference. He's high percent good from well over 50. But he has trouble on short range ex pts more often than I like.I've asked the question several times and no one has answered. If we were going to kick the FG, why in the hell didn't we at least line up as if to go for it and see if we can get them to jump and take the 5-yard delay of game penalty if they don't jump offside? For a veteran kicker like Jason Meyers, is there that big of a difference between a 37-yard FG attempt and one from 42 yards that it makes it a risk not worth taking?
So, judging by that answer, am I correct in assuming that you feel that Mac should have at least run his offense back out there and line up as if to go for it and if they couldn't draw the Niners offside to take the 5-yard delay of game penalty then kick the FG?I would say for a kicker like Meyers, no, it should not make that much of a difference.
