I mocked up a replacement.

That's nice. Fact is, it really doesn't matter when we won those trophies. What matters is we won them. And I got to see every single one of those victories. The first was at age 18.

Which should tell you that I'm very old and geezer like.

My wife and I are huge 49er fans. We are pure lifers. We watched in amazement last weekend as the Cardinals beat the Seahawks at home and the 49ers pulled one out against Atlanta a day later. Both were epic games.

It sets up a glorious final weekend of NFL football. This is why you invest a few $$$ in the NFL Ticket. We'll have the Seahawk game on one channel and the 49er game on another and perhaps the Carolina game on still another.

Although my hopes are that the Seahawks drop another game and the 49ers steal away a division title I'd never thought they'd win, it probably isn't going to happen. I just don't see Seattle losing to the Reams.

Then again, I didn't see Seattle losing to the Tardinals, either.

Wow, I didn't realize it was so far out. Fife is about 15-16 miles south of SeaTac. That is unbelievable.

Yeah. I occasionally go to meetings in Fife, and in traffic, it's an hour from Ballard.

Nice post; I too enjoy the epic battles more than anything. I have a secret. Before the Seahawks were moved to the NFC West in 2002.....I was a 49er fan. They were my NFC team that I rooted for and the Seahawks were my AFC team (and primary team). I enjoyed watching some of those same Superbowls you reference, although I was much younger than you (born in 79).

In fact, I didn't even start disliking the 49ers until I discovered football message boards. Now that both teams are great the fans are butting heads on the internet and it's annoying as can be.

I grew up in a Raiders household in the 1970s, and remember the days when the 49ers had no fans and had never had any fans. That franchise was the biggest joke in the NFL until Bill Walsh showed up, and if you were really a life-long die-hard, you wouldn't be on a Seahawks forum feebly attempting to mock the tradition of a fanbase that is older and deeper than your own. The Seahawks were actually selling out games in the late 1970's, while the Bay bragged about its Raiders dynasty. NOBODY, in the Bay Area or anywhere else, gave a single microgram of a crap about the laughable Niners until 1984 and if you really were around back then, you'd know that.

In 1980, the west coast was owned by the Rams and Raiders. Not a single person in California wore those tacky ketchup-and-mustard Ronald McDonald jerseys. And you definitely didn't see that garbage up in Seattle. That'd be like seeing a Montreal Expos fan in Seattle. Sure, there might be a few hiding out somewhere, but you'll never see them in public and it's ludicrous to claim there is some Expos fanbase here.

In 1980, one could buy 49er tickets for $5 at the stadium on game day. My dad used to take us to 49er games back then because it was cheap and easy, like a baseball game, you could just show up and sit wherever you wanted because the stadium was empty. And it was ALL Oakland Raiders fans at the game, which made him feel at home.

The 49ers were blacked out almost every home game and had no fan tradition at all. Like the Mariners, they had to give away tickets and you'd regularly see groups of kids there, recipients of tickets given away to local schools and children's charities. DeBartolo is lauded for the fact that he finally turned that joke of a franchise into a dynasty and saved football in the Bay Area after Al Davis moved the Raiders to Los Angeles.

Puh-leeeeez. You may have some trophies but you have ZERO ground to brag about your fan legacy to a franchise with a history as rich as the Seahawks. Seahawks fans are loyal for life, and the lack of championships combined with the fact they are the loudest fans of any sport on earth prove a tradition that has never existed in the Bay. Not even in the glory days of the 1980s.

You may fool yourselves with that nonsense, but you'll never fool someone who was around back then and saw first hand the joke of all those Raiders fans jumping on the 49er bandwagon in the 1980s and then jumping right off again when the Raiders came back home to Oakland.

I think this whole thing is funny because it is their way of competing with the flag flown over their stadium on game day but the thing is that flag was to show our team fan support not just to attempt to be childish and rub the Niners nose in something. I guess they could see it as us saying we support our team better than them but really, big deal.

That sign will never be seen by their team so what is the point of the sign anyways? It's not fan support. It is simply a childish and self entitled fan base that shows it at every opportunity. This was just another opportunity. It doesn't bother me in the least. In fact I'm a little embarrassed for them.
