To the MODS, if this belongs in the NFL section, please put it there....

Nice to hear from the POV of non-Seahawks reporters and what they think :

David seems pretty fair (for the most part) in his assessment.

I've been watching 49er beat reporters this summer, and Lombardi is probably the biggest hack/homer of them all. He makes a typical optimist look like a pessimist. The 49ers offensive line is in bad shape, so we'll see how his assessment of our front-7 fares...

Interesting. He didn't seem that way here.

I guess I caught him on a good day in this vid.

I always thought Grant Cohn was the biggest Hack/Homer of them all.

I think 49er fans think Grant Cohn is the biggest hack, but he's the opposite of Lombardi. Cohn's a pessimist and devil's advocate. Lombardi somehow finds a silver lining for every single turd.

Stating our defenses front seven, weren’t anything great made me immediately discount everything else he said. Video is a little bit pompous too as far as the location goes.

Lombardi is a 69er homer I don’t think I’ve ever heard a professional unbiased opinion from him

The front seven of your defense is not particularly good? He needs to do more research.
That is a lazy take by many people.

Even if you never watched them play last season just looking at the depth chart would clearly show what is up:

Reed - Proven run stopping veteran with the ability to rush the passer with double digits.
Williams - Dominant in his time in NY
Lawrence - Proven double digit pass rusher
Jones - Key cog in the middle for the rams
Nwosu - Underrated edge rusher for the Chargers

That is literally the majority of the front seven.

He lost me with Darnold is unquestionably an upgrade over Geno Smith.
unquestionable is not the right word there, not with Smiths stat lines both last year and the year before.
In a 2025 scenario where the Oline and the running game improve significantly, that could very well be true.
Darnold may have a higher upside than Smith pending several factors that need to fall into place.
its the running game, that’s the factor for both of those players and every qb in league save for maybe 2 to 3 superqbs that can excel in almost any scheme.

Murphy as well. I mean they're relying on three rookies (who missed tons of training camp) to save their DL so it's fair to add Murphy into this conversation.

The 9ers will go as far as McCaffrey's body can withstand. He's the glue. With him they can compete with most teams; without him they are sunk. Their D lost a couple of studs, so that side of the ball is a TBD. All things considered, I'd rather be in our shoes than theirs.

He's basically saying the whiners are the better team and dont need much to beat the Hawks. I'll never get that 10 minutes back of my life back. I knew I should have sat on the crapper when I watched this.

true.

i say he's an upgrade but not by some gigantic margin.

I think he's a slight upgrade at this moment that could turn into a massive one based on what you stated in regards to the running game and OL.

I remember a few years ago he took his boyfriend naked hiking up by Tahoe and filmed an episode on 49er analysis after a losing streak and blamed every loss on either a broken toenail or other injuries. Every team has injuries you need to stop mixing up getting your ass beat with injuries and take accountability like a man!!! You fuggin hear me Lombardi!! Your takes are trash!!

Maybe it’s the homer in me, but I expect Murph to take a huge step in his sophomore season. It takes that first year to acclimate to the league, but the guy is a physical beast and is set to make a noticeable difference.

If your expectation was Donald, then you need to temper your expectations. However, if your expectation is someone that can anchor that interior D line effectively and occasionally demand double teams allowing the edges to work their magic, then I think this is going to be a fun year.
