Liverpools biggest issue last year was their depth in key positions, most notably striker and out wide (whether the wing or wing back) so they certainly needed to add players, good ones for the dual campaigns.

But replacing Suarez is impossible. The team will need to be redefined. We did it to rather good effect to start the year. I'm hoping Rodgers can add depth and impact who will fit his post-Suarez style of play.

Teams have done it. Arsenal are masters of it. United won titles after Ronaldo. Its not impossible. But tricky. That was all Wenger and Ferguson. Rodgers will be the best signing we made all summer if he pulls it off.
Ok I see. However, that would be great for you if you guys are able to enter into a top player sweepstake. When I see Di Maria may go to Man U, I think that would be hard for u to become champion

As much as I'd love di maria or a player of that quality I don't see the club spending that much on one player. I think it will 2-3 more players in the 15-20 million range...or maybe a Shaqiri type in the 25 mill range

Not sure a title push is wholly realistic this season without Suarez. I think we are quite capable if top 4 as it stands now. But he's a big player to replace and expect a title the next season.

Never know I suppose.

Liverpool said to consider bid of $75 Million for Dortmund Star Marco Reus.

http://prosoccertalk.nbcsports.com/2014 ... arco-reus/

Wonderful idea.. but not getting my hopes up for that one.

I could see:

Bony/Remy
Davies/Moreno
Shaqiri
Lovren

team needs another striker and winger, needs a left back (and a right one for that matter) and a centerback.

Reus is fantastic. Would love him here. I just cant see the club putting that much into one player when they really need 3-4.

Khedira helps Arsenal. If they land him, it would be a massive window for them with Sanchez already on board. Certainly makes next season a LOT more interesting.

Waiting for City to make some moves. I like what Liverpool have done so far. Markovic could be a world beater.

I dont rate him that high. Khedira at 30 million is ridiculous. not much better than Arteta in that defensive role. Ive always thought him overrated. He may go to Arsenal (i dont think Real are looking to sell, just get the contract renewed) but it wouldnt/shouldnt be for 30 mill. This isnt FIFA. he's a role player. sure he helps because Arsenal lack defensive credibility (and Gate, save the stats and indignation, you shipped goals by the gripful against good teams).

If Khedira does go you have to start to wonder about the futures of Wilshire, Carzola and Arteta. How many center mid players is that squad going to employ?

So...I've been trying to ignore this rumor for a while now...but it won't go away.

Apparently Xavi Hernandez is mulling over 3 offers from MLS teams. New York City FC, New York Red Bulls and my own Sounders FC.

Doesn't make much sense for the Sounders...but then again...Dempsey seems more unlikely than this...so..have to report it.

....Not sure how it works out...

Mathieu Debuchy has officially signed with Arsenal. I think it's a great signing and replacement for Sagna.

Khedira for 30 million is interesting. I feel like he is a decent defensive mid. The problem is convincing him that he's not deserving of being Arsenal's highest paid player if he joins.

The midfield is gonna be as jammed as an LA freeway if he does sign. But in a way, it would solve and shortcomings should injuries pile up in that area again like last year.

He's definately decent, but he's not 30million decent. He barely got games at Real. If I'm running Arsenal (and I'm not, I get that) I'd think keeping Arteta in that role than finding a younger, cheaper player to groom into a holding/defensive mid role would be a better use of funds... then solving the bigger issues which is right back (still havent replaced Sagna yet, correct?) and 2nd striker (Loic Remy is still out there and it appears Griezmann is available). I guess its not that he's worth this much or that, but if he's really what Arsenal need for their money.

It does sound liek Khedira wants high wages, which may turn Arsenal off as well, as it should. He should be breaking arms to go to a top European club that will play him.

Sanchez was a great signing, but honestly he just makes Arsenal better in a position they are already good at.

Work to be done

I said alot of things...

what are you linking to?

wait, is this Debuchy?

Aurier wouldve been the very good signing there. Debuchy's steady. not all that good. Better than Glen Johnson I will say that. But not alot, and Glen Johnson is my own personal enemy this past year. Was terrible for Liverpool.

Whats the fee?

Wow, what? I was the one praising the Sanchez signing, and said it was massive for you. I also praised the signings of Giroud and Ozil, AND I said that Kedhira would be a big help if you guys land him. Stop being an arsehole. Debuchy just isn't a great right-back. Newcastle shipped goals galore last season, and he was a big reason why, IMO. He is too hesitant to commit to a tackle, and is lost against pacey wingers who can turn inside on a dime. Definitely a massive downgrade over Sagna.

Signing the guy who started over Sagna in the World Cup is a downgrade? And I felt he was the shining light in that shit of a defense Newcastle had last year.

I think alot of people were very confused by Debuchy over Sagna for France. And I dont think Sagna's all that either to be honest.

Look, hes a decent enough player. But he's 28, not particularly strong on the ball, a bit slow, gets beat alot, and is coming from Newcastle. Bit of a gamble I guess. But as I said in my earlier thread on Arsenal, that type of signing makes sense as it frees up resources for filling a need. In this case they went a bit unspectacular at RB (a big need). Let's see if they go spectacular at striker (the biggest need)

If you're happy with it, cool. Atleast your RB situation is sorted.

Liverpool still need one.

The fee is undisclosed.

I feel like Debuchy is a decent and smart signing. He's experienced, he's already settled into the EPL, and it works for Jenkinson as well as it gives him just a little more time to improve. Jenkinson, in my mind is who Arsenal had somewhat in mind when deciding this, as signing someone like Aurier, who is good but raw, throws Jenkinson's future in the squad into question and then they'd essentially go right back to square one in the process.

apparently its been disclosed... 12 million

Which means Newcastle may have signed a better defender (in Janmaat) and made a 7 million profit.

Newcastle is doing business this window.

Yeah they are.

Also, this:

hate it.

he could do a Toure... i dont mind him in the mix, but we need (NEED) a strong left and right back than can push the wings in attack while defending as well

Aurier and Moreno will do just fine (and Lovren and Griezmann and then done)
