Just look at the math, his last 3 seasons have been progressively worse. There is no way he wasn't considering retiring.
Then JS gets on the phone and says to him "Yo, you want a free 18 million"?
If you ever wonder was it JS or MM who made the call....it's always JS. Don't romanticize it! Sure everyone will be in the meeting but every choice is 100% determined by JS . When was the last time the front office said "We were overridden by the coach on that transaction"?

Will be interesting to see the real numbers though. Seems like over the half the time, it's less than originally reported.
It's basically 2 years, 18 million. From a guy who has been a beast as a pass rusher for several years.
