As a reminder, Christian Haynes played in the wide zone scheme in college. Perhaps he didn't fit well in the Grubb's scheme but will be a better fit with Kubiak's wide zone. I'd like to think the professionals know what they are doing.
Say it ain’t so!

The level of armchair GMing and spouting of amateur draft theory as if it’s some professional view is hilarious to read. People think WAY too highly of their emotional drama as if they are some draft Nostradamus incarnate.

To top off that turd sandwich, people are threatening John based on their clearly psychotic episodes as if anyone cares. 😂

Get back on the meds and chill out people. There are actual professionals working on this. Your temper tantrums do nothing but make you look foolish.

Death, Taxes and people freaking out every time someone signs a deal somewhere else. Good stuff.
And yes, I'm bummed we didn't get him.
I am sure there are plenty of quality IOL's still just waiting for calls. AMIRITE?

I am generally not one to yell FIRE - but damn we need IOL and it feels a like we are banking on the draft or the bottom end of FA (read marginal help at best).

That Fries deal was toxic and had John taken the bait I would have been shocked. With our luck he would be on a season ending injury in training camp and this place would erupt in retconned takes about how dumb John is.

Fans should be happy he peaced out on that negotiation.

DRAFT OL in top rounds!!!! Typically OL draft picks in the top rounds do very well compared to other positions drafted high.
I like to see the optimism and hope this is accurate!!

Looks like there were concerns with injury on one of the top guys and just too much $$ on the other. I can't really fault JS for passing, but I am still nervous about relying on the draft to fix our OL woes.

Although JS seems to have done pretty well addressing our defensive needs. So maybe I should just calm myself the **** down! Man. That is difficult to do.

Yeah, I don't blame John for losing out on Fries, I'm sure he was right in the thick of the bidding amongst multiple teams. You can't force a guy to sign, plus the injury issue and that kind of $ for an OG when Cross & Lucas are soon up, might have dodged a bullet.
Just because John lost out on a couple of high priced OG's on day one of free agency is no reason to slam the guy who built a Super Bowl winner and loves this team as much as we do. Yes the IOL was neglected for too long, but I believe JS is going to make upgrades. It just might take a bit, it's early.
John just snagged the #1 QB (and player) in free agency AND got him at a much lower price than anyone expected with team friendly contract details. Also the Jones OL depth signing was big, a lot of insurance there, even if only a year, he's in the building.

Reminder: we still have cap room and the draft & even preseason cutdowns.
I think John knows everything hinges on fixing the IOL, he's finally got the $ & draft picks to do it, give him time.
If he strikes out on the draft I will be the first to call for his head.
Chill & try and enjoy the ride a little, Darnold might move the chains and be good in the red zone.

I don’t blame him for missing out on an OL in the free agency this year

I blame him for having an offensive line that sucks year after year after year. We can’t run the ball, we can’t pass block because of it. We are going on to our third offensive coordinator in three years. No one can make their system work with this sub par line. And our GM says guards are over valued. We can’t compete because we can’t block.

We won 10 games last year. We definitely compete. Yes the line was bad last year but we still won.
It needs to improve and that can still happen even without Fries or Dalman. By the way Dalman is far from perfect. Especially in pass pro.

Good point about wide zone. But why are these professionals drafting for wide zone in the first place? Was Waldron running wide zone at the time? Was Grubb running wide zone in college? Or did they know Kubiak was going to be the OC when Haynes was drafted?

The problem with John's vision or lack thereof is constructing a team of mishmash players that don't fit a cohesive philosophy. This is why we haven't had an identity on offense since the LOB days.

Cross and Lucas were highly graded for their pass blocking but not run blocking. Meanwhile Bradford was supposed to be a road grader.

BPA is fine and all when your scouting team is top notch and has some idea of the overall vision. But JS constructs a roster with no cohesive vision of what it wants to do. Hopefully MM and Kubiak has had A LOT of input on what this offense should be. JS is just an operator, who sometimes makes good deals and sometimes makes bad deals. But don't ask him what the team identity should be because he hasn't had a good answer for this.

32nd ranked o-line is all you really need to know about these professionals, at this particular point in time.

Good point. Dude gets injured and we get to hear how John should have known he would get injured.

Can you win on the 1st day of FA? No
Can you win on the 2nd day of FA? No
Can you win on the 3rd day of FA? No
Can you win on the 4th day of FA? Yes

Sorry, couldn’t resist
Just so I know. Are we counting yesterday which was the first unofficial day of fa, or do we start tomorrow as the first day because that’s when these signings are official? I just need to know if the winning starts Thursday or Saturday.

I wasn't real big on Fries myself. And I'm not freaking out yet. It's more of the history that has me worried. But I'll wait out the off-season before I make any real judgement. I was worried about it going into last season but then I put on the rose-colored glasses and squinted real hard and set myself up for another letdown. Hope they can finally work it out this season.

At least we aren't the Texans at the moment. They had a bad IOL then they trade their good LT, and now they've signed Laken Tomlinson. I don't know, maybe he's an upgrade - they did trade their LG to the Eagles. I don't know what they are doing.
