Anyone remember the trashing of JS and the front office when they traded a 2nd and 5th round pick to the Giants for Leo? There was some serious handwringing and gnashing of teeth over this trade if I remember correctly. Fans are just plain shittalkers and clueless much of the time.
Eh, there was legitimate reason to question it at the time. We gave up significant capital for ten games of a DT approaching his 30s in what turned out to be a non-playoff season, without an extension in place. That was incredibly risky. Williams could have easily chosen to sign somewhere else and it would have been Sheldon Richardson all over again.

But didn't. And it was a GREAT trade.
In retrospect, absolutely. I'm just giving some viable reasons of why it was considered risky at the time. We've been on both ends of trading for a guy without an extension in place. Some worked great, some blew up spectacularly.

This is super cool but not sure how you justify Williams at 1 and Murphy out of the top 10. Those two are much closer than most realize.

People glazing BYRON is hilarious. He's not useless, but he's a lot closer to Chad Eaton than he is to Tez.

The gap between Leo and BYRON is bigger than the gap between Wags and Cody Barton.

your posts about BYRON MURPHY are absolute dog shit, we've all seen fans bag and trash on players, but my god you go to extra special lengths to bash Byron. Wtf he do to you?

I have nothing against Bustron personally. He seems like a chill dude.

Nothing wrong with being the Cody Barton of DTs. That guy tried hard and was a team player.

I've always thought the LWilliams trade was agreed by JS and JAllen to decide one-way-or-the-other on Pete. I don't think it's a stretch to say Pete was the eternal optimist and always professed the team was one piece away from a deep playoff run. I honestly think LWilliams was signed to give Pete the piece he said was missing. If it works, Seahawks are back on top. If not, no more excuses and the team moves on. We know what happened.

So...once that decision was made, JS goes to work re-signing LW and building the team with his personal/individual vision. It was a risk, but it also had the benefit of moving the team forward even if the trade itself didn't work.

Thanks for making my point about fans.

Do you think our front office doesn't do risk analysis when they make these moves? I'm sure they're aware a choice they make MIGHT not work out, which has happened before.

Nobody should have had a problem with the player, but there was obviously the risk that he could have bailed at the end of the season for a higher offer. Hell, we probably were the highest offer.

Never questioning anything is boring. The uncertainty is a big part of what makes these moves fun for me.

I would guess that taking some high-risk high-reward chances will be a fairly large piece of JSs legacy. He's lost some bets, but he's also built 2 separate Championship rosters. Playing it too safe is a killer. Losing most of your risky bets is also a loser. JS has been relatively successful hitting the sweet spot. ...at least for certain periods of time in his career. I hope he stays in the game until he's 70 and I hope the new owners recognize his value.

Two days in a row with an honorable mention. Cross was listen second among them yesterday on OT day, and Zabel was listed first among them on iOL day today.
