I don't think anybody is expecting another 60 HR season from Cal. 30-40 would be nice, and still pretty doable if he gets on a roll. It's early in the season, so his BA should rise pretty quickly if he can continue to connect like he did last night on two pretty well hit singles. I think his "natural" BA should fall somewhere between .240 and .260 or so. We could all live with that, I think, and he could help us win a lot of games if got there.

i agree, He just seems like he's trying too hard to match last year so he's making bad choices with the Swing and miss rate.

Well, there were some contributing factors. I kinda hate the WBC, even though I understand why the players want to do it. It just interferes with their spring ball training. Cal missed what? 20 or 30 at bats by going there and sitting for all but two games?

Then, a couple of weeks ago it looked like he was getting into the groove when this side thing cropped up. Missed 3 games and had to start all over getting his timing back, and I'm not convinced he was 100% when he did come back. Obliques and whatever side muscles we have can be tricky and linger beyond when the player thinks he's good enough to play. None of them want to sit and do rehab, and Cal is particularly competitive, especially about "his" pitching staff. People yell about Wilson, but he's got another 130 games, more or less, to manage and every decision this time of year has to be weighed against that long term goal.

Cal had a couple of decent ABs early in last night's game, where he fouled off some good pitches and looked real close, so it wasn't real surprising when he laid into a couple and got good results.

In my analysis, echoing what Harold Reynolds had said, Cal is simply late on his heel kick, as well as early on his swing. Once he gets that timing down, he’ll be back to being a contributor in this lineup.

However, until that timing is corrected, I believe it would benefit the team to move him down the batting order a bit and move Cole Young up. Just my opinion, I acknowledge I have no MLB managing experience outside of MLB The Show, so take that as you will.

They did drop Cal down 2 spots in last nights game. So a little bit of that. One could argue for more, I guess.

Young, I don't know. We do want someone at the bottom of the order who can get on base and set up the top of the lineup, so there's that. I don't disagree, though, that he might be a presence up in the 5 hole or so.
