I find it odd how much value people put onto coaching during the season. These are multi millionaires needing to do the job they get paid for.

I'm not sure what COACHING would change for our top 3 highest paid Offensive players literally hitting it straight into gloves

I've always said managers in baseball are completely overrated. The difference between a good manager and a bad manager is probably a difference of two wins.

It's the only sport I think where you can have a computer be the coach or manager. The computer would set optimal lineups, would know what player to bring out of the pen for certain matchups. That's basically what managers do, they set lineups and manage the pen. With baseball being all about advanced stats, why not?

I don't think Dan Wilson is a very good manager, but he's far from the issue here.

Way to many games in a baseball season. Let's wait until the season is more than 3% over to see where everyone's at.

Maybe. But he lost us the Toronto series.

I'd certainly feel better about post-season and World Series chances if the club were managed by a skipper who was able to get the team firing on all cylinders, or at least nearly so, within the first week or two of the season. It's time the Ms start charging the F out the gates from Game 1.

This coaching staff across the board is an embarrassment.

Their bat speed is significantly lower across the board this year because the coaches wanted more contact. Well, that’s not working out very well.

How many times do we have to see a bullpen arm come out and have poor control right out the gate? Way too often. That’s on coaching.

This team is fundamentally flawed. Putting Donavan at third was a coaches decision and a poor one.

Way, way, way too early to be talking about firing Dan (or any manager in any era) this early. It's too early for him to give up on players, which means there is very little he can do right now. It's not like the M's lineup is failing to hit because their manager isn't giving them a batting tip before each at bat.
I'll say this, though: I don't see this team making the playoffs, and Dan might have to go after the season.
The Ms still have a better roster than most Ms teams of the last 10 years, and a great farm system, so I don't want any changes in the front office.

If the Mariners are serious about winning a world series I think they need to get rid of the players who always start slow. You're simply never going to win a world series if you finish the first month with one of the worst records in baseball.
The Mariners will never win anything with Julia Rodriguez on the team. He needs to be benched for the first 2 months and have a reduced salary to account for missing the first 2 months. He's just a garbage player to start every season.

Dan Wilson and the coaching staff, knowing the history of the Mariners' slow starts over the last few years, should have concentrated on solving that problem. I know it's a difficult issue to figure out, but I hope a lot of effort was put into it. As the old cliche goes, the games now mean as much as any.

Pretty much everyone who went to the wbc has stunk to start the season. Especially naylor
I think the correlation is so strong that there will be changes going forward. If the WBC makes MLB baseball suck in April then something will change.

It isn't new. Happens every time the WBC happens. We just notice it more this year because of higher expectations.

Just completely disagree... If Naylor, Cal and Julio were batting 250 plus to 300... there would be no issue... our current start has NOTHING to do with "coaching" as that doesn't slow your bat speed... at all

Was just about to post this. Dude had never played 3rd base. I feel bad for him. Stanton needs to move on from Justin and Jerry after this season if they don't turn it around.

It’s been a fundamental approach to slow bat speed to initiate more contact
