So. People can say “lack of play calling experience” but let’s be real that’s what the offseason and preseasons for. Also not a single HC in the league was born with or given play calling experience until a team and someone took a chance on them to get that experience. Lastly I think Coach Mike is confident in this hire. Like he was confident in telling Kubiak to take a shot at the endzone where JSN and CG were on point for an either a TD if same led it better and CG didn’t get the PBU.

In the end I think we’re fine. My only complaint? i hate the amount of inpatient teams who fire coaches. This yr had to be a record on HC and Assistant openings.

Well, Kubiak, was part of the Shanahan tree himself. Fluery, is another in the same line. I guess the elements, at least, possibly, principles etc may be shared between Kubiak and Fluery, so that continues ish. Fluery, helped coach George Kittle etc so maybe AJ Barner and company will develop into stars as well. We gotta believe that Mac and Schneider believe this will work. So we gotta fall in line.
No one tells Morgulon to fall in line.

Jk

Maybe this guy is exactly what MM JS are looking for. I think Kubiak left a lot on the table regarding TEs.

I don't know how NFL coaches prepare, but I'd think this would be something that lends itself to simulation over the offseason. Like MM provides the situation, Fleury makes a call, MM provides the outcome, Fleury makes the next call, etc. Really something like that should be automated through AI and based on opponent strengths/tendencies.

The new OC should know the system the team wants to run CHECK!

The new OC should have been promoted within that system, CHECK!

The new OC should have some proven ability to develop talent at areas of the team needing development, CHECK!

The new OC should have a broad football background on both sides of the ball, CHECK!

The new OC should come from a proven system with a winning record, CHECK!

There are lots more should haves but swiping a highly regarded coach from a key divisional rival is a SCORE!

The proof of course will need to come but this coach could just be a genuine sleeper steal that makes the team stronger. Not at all unhappy with this hire.

Well..then, what was 49ers run game other than CMC?.. that was easy.
Pretty sure he wasn’t Run Game drafter. The 49ers had CMC hurt off and on and James the rookie hurt almost all year.

Agree, and pretty sure JS has his paw prints all over this as well.
Yes but I think Leslie Frazier is now very involved with Strategy to help, John and him both are victems of post Superbowl staff poaching and players.

It's silly to think that even Mike and John will never make mistakes again, but Fleury doesn't seem like one of them. He's from the right system, he's got experience on both sides of the ball and a strong background in QA, and unless Mike and John were just desperate to avoid hiring from within, the swiftness of the move speaks volumes.

I do think there will be growing pains, but Fleury's having a terrific situation handed to him, including the league's best defense to put him in forgiving situations.
Blasphemy, well just the first part about JSMM and their infallibility…. The rest I kinda like

We just won the ****ing Super Bowl, we're in great cap position, and the future looks rosy AF, but still we have a bunch of Eeyores around here who can't help but be pessimistic. Jesus, this place has too many Seattle/PNW snowflake personalities.
This.

Coach MM had never been a head coach either. That seems to have worked out OK.

Who knows, maybe part of the interview with our inside guys and exiting Kubiak were OC recommendations as well. If not you who?

If nobody was allowed to hire before the superbowl was over then yeah maybe we could get a Mike McDaniel on the staff, but the proven commodities are gone and we are Superbowl champions. No team is going to let their current O-Coordinator walk so you're left with either: former O-Coordinators and "proven commodities" who are currently unemployed (why?), college coaches (can't always make the step up to the pros) or position coaches. We announced the hire of Kubiak on the same day as the NFC Championship last year - if we had had to wait until mid-February he would almost certainly not have been available to us then. It's rare that quality coaches are still available after the Superbowl. Given that Mike McDaniel, Mike Lafleur and Klint Kubiak were all former Shanahan assistants, I think it bodes well that we may have gotten another great one.

Which proven commodity would you take instead?
Thank God the Seahawks didn't have to choose Mike McDaniel. The Miami offense was pathetic under his watch.

Well put.

I just hope that he stays ground and pound. He's got the meat and potatoes experience from the run and TE perspectives. And he's been on the defensive side of the ball.

I LIKE it. I was just concerned that we'd end up with some Reid-tard who wanted to go Grubb and pass 87% of the time, getting our QB executed in the process.

Seems like we're gonna be keeping it on the ground, and under center - thank god.

Love it. Not what I wanted initially - but could have been ALOT worse.

With Fleury in the fold and the 9ers having a lot of UFA's, maybe we can steal someone who helps us & hurts them to the highest degree.
Lynch has had to low-ball his core players to pay those aging elites, maybe we could snag a young player to a reasonable deal who wants a ring.

I just read that the Seahawks are valued at 11B and just a few weeks ago it was 8B. Someone must really like this hire....

To me, MMac learned what happens if a Coordinator and HC aren't on the same page in yr 1. He tightened the reigns on Kubs early in season 2 and the O started playing complimentary football- all 3 phases with no need to score 30. As others have stated, MM and JS have done a brilliant job of weighing risk/reward on personnel decisions so far. It's fair to question, but they've proven a lot of doubters wrong.

There's an embarrassment of riches on O right now. So much that there's not enough ball to go around. That may get leaner in FAcy but think about OPOY, TE group that is bursting with talent, Horton and Kupp, Ice-cold killer Darnold, and additionally whichever FAs come back: K9, Shaheed.... And a young, homegrown OL that's best in 10 yrs+. It gives a new OC a lot of room for error when there are that many playmakers...and more to come.

All that said, the best part to me, is that it adds insult to injury to the 9rs. So humiliating to be brutalized on the field, find Seahawks logos and cigars and champagne in your locker room from the SB, then lose an up-and-comer inside the Division. Ouch.

Honestly, we underused our tight ends, and we carried two fullbacks all year… maybe we needed our te for blocking, but I almost forgot Arroyo was on the team. He seemed to be sitting with Milroe. Hopefully Fleury can make us more tight end efficient cause we can run and we can throw.
At least he got a ring out of it.

But I do hope with this hiring, he gets more action now.
