TE coaches transition to OC well because they have to understand all levels of the offense. Design, run blocking, pass concepts, tempo. McVay and Ben Johnson started there. He was run game coordinator for a banged up but still good 49ers offense. Brings continuity to the Shanahan system so expect to see continued emphasis on growing the run game.

My guess is he absolutely crushed the interview. MM and JS are meticulous in their preparation, he very likely showed up as a wild card and took the job.

Not to say he’s the next McVay or Ben Johnson but I like this hire. 49ers speak very highly of him, people internally who played with him speak highly, he was in the mix last few years as a name to keep an eye on for next wave of OC’s. Welcome aboard! Got some big shoes to fill for the guy who showed up every day at 6 am to prepare.

Nothing wrong with questioning the move. Considering that we just won the Super Bowl you would think that we would be able to attract a proven commodity with play calling experience. There's no guarantee he'll fail, but we're more likely to say "we didn't repeat as champions because of our O coordinator" than we are to say "we repeated with a great O coordinator hire." The risk-reward just seems a bit off considering we are Super Bowl champions.

Fleury can get right into the draft analysis.

Keep in mind Kubiak only had one year of playcalling experience (with the Aints) when he was hired here. And they've kept a good chunk of the offensive brain trust. I can trust JS and MM on this.

It's silly to think that even Mike and John will never make mistakes again, but Fleury doesn't seem like one of them. He's from the right system, he's got experience on both sides of the ball and a strong background in QA, and unless Mike and John were just desperate to avoid hiring from within, the swiftness of the move speaks volumes.

I do think there will be growing pains, but Fleury's having a terrific situation handed to him, including the league's best defense to put him in forgiving situations.

I expect our new OC to be introduced in the press conference WWE style. With Motorhead blasting in the background. And finish off the press conference by selecting a random reporter to be smashed in the face with a Sledge hammer.

I want him to be introduced with "Time To Play The Game" at the Presser. 😂

We just won the ****ing Super Bowl, we're in great cap position, and the future looks rosy AF, but still we have a bunch of Eeyores around here who can't help but be pessimistic. Jesus, this place has too many Seattle/PNW snowflake personalities.
Yes, because offensive coordinator angst in a year involving a repeated Super Bowl attempt has never, EVER been a thing in this fan base.

Well maybe don't be a Florida dipshit and skim over the fact that OC is a very important component and it's the single reason why the Eagles fell off. It's ok to be wary and pessimistic about a hire, even though I personally approve of the hire

How do you do that? you can't just find an OC with play calling experience. Who did you have in mind
