It isn't that crazy.

Giving the Seahawks a short field makes sense. The Hawks don't score TDs in the first half and are one of the worst first half scoring teams since their game against the Rams. You can give them the ball in the Red zone and it still likely will only be a FG. We have a terrible TD to FG %.

Worst case you give up a FG. Most likely the Seahawks give you the ball back with a punt. And going for it on 4th down gives you a better shot at the TDs you want. In our Last game against the Rams, the Rams scored 2 Tds on separate drives by going for it on 4th down.

Edit:
That was a beautiful TD. The numbers say they cannot run the ball or score TDs. But man, I hope the Hawks prove the #s wrong. Maybe we can break the trend.

Not a backpeddle.

The #s say it makes more sense to go on 4th down. The Rams won that game because of it.

The Seahawks bucked the #s and made them pay. But the question was why you make that call. You make it because the Seahawks won't usually hurt you if you don't convert.
Look at the #s in every game since the last Rams game.

Its 4th and goal now. They just converted a 4th and 5 earlier. They will likely go for almost every 4th and less than 6 outside their own 35. Which means allowing the catch but defending the sticks on 3rd down won't work, and we do that often.

They'll pass on 4th and 15 as long as they're not in their own territory. McVay knows his guys can execute.

It's only a gamble is there is something you lose or a cost to you.
Until the Hawks can prove that giving them a short field matters - it will keep happening.
Otherwise, it is just heads you win, tails you flip again.....
