Big difference was that Mike was pulling starters into the 4th quarter ( JSN, big Cat etc) and the QB was only handing the ball to run clock. It was not going to show you anything with Lock in there; nor was Sam in any danger with the play selection.

I see what you’re saying with running out the clock, but regardless of the final score, we had put the game away. Allowing Drew to throw even when he came in would not have changed the outcome even if he threw two interceptions. If he was that terrible, we have our answer for next year

Yeah, there was just a moderate risk of injury to a quarterback who is doing nothing but handing off and there's not a lot of value for the backup QB in that situation. Nevertheless, even though the risk of injury is very small, the consequences could be enormous if he were to get his foot stepped on by a lineman, which does happen.

I'd hate to be in Macdonald's shoes if Darnold suffered an injury in the 4th quarter of a blow-out win. It would be just as intense, if not more, that Quinn is having to endure by his leaving Daniels in.

The Commanders got the ball with almost 13 minutes left in the 4th quarter, so almost the entire quarter. Quinn should have pulled his starting QB with almost a full quarter to go?

Bo Nix and the Broncos scored 33 in the 4th quarter against the Giants a couple of weeks ago. Maybe Payton should have pulled his starters and quit though.

If I were an owner I'd fire a coach who didn't keep trying to win the game. Most of the great comebacks in history don't happen if the team that is behind just quits.

Your HC can only control what your players do. I remember the Rams playing the Giants in 2021 and the Rams were up 38-3 with 6 minutes left in the 4th quarter. At that point Joe Judge, the f***ing p***k HC of the Giants, decided to start running a hurry-up 2-minute offence for the rest of the game. That decision contributed to 1 of the Rams rotational players suffering a significant injury and missing several weeks.

You can't control what the other team chooses to do and sadly being hard-nosed about it is likely to be counter-productive. People need to focus on the big picture rather than nice stats.

Respectfully, you want Sam in the position Jaylen is now in? Because that’s the risk you take in leaving him in a game whose OUTCOME is clear. Them scoring a garbage time td doesn’t matter as much as us seeing how prepared Drew is to deliver one with starter weapons for purposes of 2026 evaluation as he’s under contract.
Sam doesn’t play defense genius. This was about the defense giving up rushing yards.

Quit getting personal and address how precisely it benefits either team in a complete blowout from failing to pull starting qbs, particularly as the winner of the equation. Even in the Super Bowl, the Eagles pulled Hurts when he got his 40 points to the Chiefs 6 early in the fourth. Even with no other games thst year, coach pulled Hurts rather than risk his unavailability this year even if chiefs got 17 more garbage points by leaving Mahomes in there.

The Chiefs at least didn’t have a motive to further evaluate Wentz as he had performed badly enough in prior relief to not be asked back, whereas we haven’t seen Lock for two years.
As someone already pointed out, point deferential absolutely matters.

Fact is, most Seahawk fans have grown weary in barely squeaking by and winning close games.

Sure a win is a win but I/we want to see beat downs.

Totally dominating the opposition.

You’re certainly entitled to your opinion as am I, at the end of the day it’s actually our opinion that matters not.

*The score of every game matters and has a potential impact come playoff time/seeding.

*=FACT, and facts DGAF about our opinion.

Especially when you consider that Daniels was coming off a hamstring injury, unquestionably the answer is yes. All the Commanders were doing was handing off, but Daniels has running bred into him, kinda like telling a rooster not to crow at the sun. Daniels's replacement, Marcus Mariota, didn't throw a single pass.

What Nix and the Broncos did was unprecedented. You're talking odds of a thousand to one. That's not good enough to risk injuring your franchise quarterback in his first game back after spending two games out due to injury.

The Broncos were behind by 19 points at the end of the third. Whereas we were ahead by 31. The last time a lead was actually blown by over 30 in the fourth like that was with Jeff Saturday with the Colts, and Saturday was there precisely because Jim irsay preferred to tank.Completely different situations.

If the Rams are blowing out the Niners by the fourth this Sunday by over 30 in the fourth, the rational move would be to preserve Stafford while seeing what Garoppolo can do being thst they haven’t seen him in a real game since the raiders.

I was rather satisfied with when they finally did pull Darnold. Seemed about right to me.
I wonder though...if Daniels didn't get hurt, would Darnold have remained in the game?

I mean I forget...did MacDonald take out Darnold before or after Daniels' injury?

Daniels was injured at the end of their drive, and Mariota was the QB for their TD. Lock played QB on our next series with somewhere around 6 minutes left in the quarter.

So was it right after?

Isn't point differential one of the tiebreakers that can determine division champ?
Yes, but it is way down the list. It would have to be rare for the tie-break to reach down that far. However, consistently not putting the foot down until 0.00 isn't great... but isn't it valuable to give back-ups some experience in some games, and to possibly rest/protect the incumbent QB, etc, especially if they are carrying a worrying injury?

Haven't teams been accused OF running up the score, or is this a myth?

Completely different, FWIW, in Australian Rules footy, where percentage points (ratio for and against) is the first tie-breaker, and AFAIK it has never gone further than that. in fact, I have no idea even what other tie-breakers exist.

We were getting close to points in our tiebreaker with the Rams. We got down to strength of schedule, points would have mattered in the next step.

  1. Head-to-head record
  2. Best win percentage in games played within the division
  3. Best win percentage in common games
  4. Best win percentage in games played within the conference
  5. Strength of victory
  6. Strength of schedule
  7. Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed
  8. Best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed
  9. Best net points in common games
  10. Best net points in all games
  11. Best net touchdowns in all games
  12. Coin toss

Remember when Tua beat Russ 70-20 in 2023 after he came back from 2022 having suffered three concussions?

What exactly was the point of having Russ there either? Had Russell injured himself, his whole 2025 Salary would be paid and perhaps Payton doesn’t have a job now.

Point differential means little when it comes to the risk of losing your qb for the rest of the season for an outcome already decided vs the outcome of losing him for the rest of the season. It’s already happened with Wentz and now Daniels. So long to the Commanders’ season. So long to wins by Minny if JJ goes down again, a possibility considering his history.
