I mean we just scored a 3rd overall pick from the bargain bin that is playing like the 1st overall pick. Dude, best be giving Mr. Schnieder his props. He is money.
But but....Jalen Milroe something something....
Though seriously, I do remember reading (I don't know if it was here or on some other board) that some thought Milroe would be starting by the middle of this season.
They had absolutely zero confidence in Sam even though he had come off a 14-win season. They were so obsessed with those final two games and believing that Darnold is now back to NYJ Darnold (as if he was mind-wiped of all the QB experience and development he's attained), they were convinced Milroe (as raw as he was) would be starting because "yippee. He's Lamar Jackson 2.0" or some nonsense.
Anyway, hopefully JS doesn't do anything stupid like Kwesi (Vikings GM) did and kick Darnold to the curb in favor of a younger QB just 'cause they drafted him (ie Kwesi / McCarthy).![]()
Credit to JS for securing this deal and landing Darnold when other teams didn't. Just a little pushback through. Darnold was JS's plan B. Reports were that JS offered Geno $35-45 per, a deal similar to the Raiders deal. Geno ghosted him.
It was not until this happened that JS pursued Darnold. Luckily for us, the Vikings didn't resign him and he was available. Had Geno accepted the offer, we would be rolling with Geno right now. Thank goodness that didn't happen.

yeah but "NYJ Sam Darnold" primarily refers to the "I See Ghosts" year where he threw a bajillion INTs.I recently took a look and what really surprised me was "NYJ Darnold" wasn't even that bad. As a 21-year old rookie (2018), he threw for 2,865 yards, 17 TDs, and 15 INTs. The next year (2019) he went for 3,024 yards, 19 TDs, and 13 INTs. Those are respectable young QB numbers. His third year (the weird Covid year) went sideways and he was shipped off to Carolina shortly thereafter. His HC in 2019/20 was Adam Gase, who never had a coaching job again. His OC those two years was Dowell Loggains, who is the current HC of Appalachian State. The wrong teams fail these young QBs just as much (if not more) than the other way around.
It was the perfect storm :Credit to JS for securing this deal and landing Darnold when other teams didn't. Just a little pushback through. Darnold was JS's plan B. Reports were that JS offered Geno $35-45 per, a deal similar to the Raiders deal. Geno ghosted him.

The Optics on Geno were not positive. He seemed sullen, and withdrawn. Contrast this with Slingin' Sam, his persona seems to be determination, and all business. DK and Geno to me seemed the same, taking plays off, which if you watched the Seahawks season, Sam never takes a play off. WE WON in so many ways Jan 2025 to today. We have Our Nigba, and a resolute and all business Coach and QB. Not to slight any others. I would have been happy with the season if we didn't go to the Superb Owl, I still will be happy if we have a sad outcome there. We have a young team, young Coach, and in totallity, a positive roster. LOVE me some Hawks
I'm a little less black and white on the Geno offer and the Plan B signing of Sam. I think there was more gray to this story, though I could be wrong in my supposition. I don't think either MM or JS were enamored with Geno, didn't think he was a good leader, or fit into the culture they were building. They were in a bind at QB, however, and they clearly felt that Sam was going to be the best available alternative to Geno out there.Credit to JS for securing this deal and landing Darnold when other teams didn't.
