Yeah of course a guy like DK is missed because he’s an absolute freak out there who draws a lot of attention but man you can’t open up the chequebook to him like he wanted cause he ain’t Jamar Chase or JJ who can outright win you games more than once or twice a year. He wanted to be paid top buck and he got it. Good for him.

He drew a lot of attention and you cannot deny that. He made life easy for guys like JSN and Lockett the last couple/few years cause he was that guy that can burn your downfield. That being said, he wasn’t worth burning a ton of cap for because he wasn’t a regular 1300 yard/10TD guy like Pittsburgh is paying him to be.

He was a good receiver with freak athleticism that could make huge plays on any given day but he had so so hands and was bad at contesting catches in tight coverage. Throw in his immaturity and short fuse Im glad they traded him and at least didn’t him walk for nothing.

JFC this team won a superbowl with Angry Doug and Jermaine Kerse and Tate as their #1 and 2 and 3 receivers and they weren’t exactly DK stature let’s be honest….

But that offense was built on running the ball. The NFL has evolved a lot since then which is why WRs are paid top dollar. Even in the old NFL of 1980s to like 2000s you still need a capable compliment to your 1 with a 2. NFL offenses since mid 2015 really have 1a and 1b at WR. Eagles and Bucs are good examples of this. Lions and Vikings are other examples too.

JSN needs another guy opposite of him to really thrive IMO. Might as well increase Horton snap count and see if he can be a low end 2 at the very least. Kupp can rotate with him and show him the ropes as a vet.

D.K. had 4 catches for 83 yards today one of which he literally dropped and had it bounce off someone else and then into his hands. He is a mediocre receiver. Built like a freak of nature but he is a mediocre WR.

Yes, stats wise. He had an average game today however, how many times was he double teamed freeing up other receivers? That’s what people fail to mention about him. Yes it’s not quantifiable, but it’s pretty well known that he draws a ton of attention from a defense.

Do you have anything to back up saying he was double teamed? The guy has been way overblown since his rookie season which was in fact great for a rookie but he hasn't really improved since that time. He just isn't that great as a WR, he really isn't. Not saying he is terrible but he is massively overrated.

Metcalf was physical attacking the boundary and gaining YAC. Rodgers is known for YAC and having a big target like that on the boundary that helps big time. Also Arthur Smith likes using two TEs to offer bigger targets in the passing game so having a large WR that can run downfield like Metcalf to clear out things underneath for Smith and Freiermuth is ideal.

If what I saw today from the Steelers continues next week it will be a tough, tough matchup. Also freed up a smaller WR like T. Austin to do work on the outside 1 on 1. Plus, Warren was able to do more work in the flats too.

My last memory of DK when playing the 9ers - Ran a lazy route, which led to a pick instead of the go-ahead score.

A true X might be needed in this offense, but DK (and that contract) is not him.

He was shadowed by Sauce Gardner all day, and only got one catch on him (the 11-yard tip drill circus catch after Gardner broke up the pass). I don't know about the double team, but taking one of the best corners out of the game is worth something. Once defenses have actually played him a time or two, I'm not convinced he will continue to draw the same attention.

Agree. My post history shows I was high on DK. My favorite player. What do we have left? Who's going to step up this year?

Love DK! He hated losing.

Maybe with the Shite situation in Miami.. perhaps it's a good time to inquire about T Hill.

That said, I don't know if he's healthy or in trouble or not.,

D.K. really is top notch at being shut down by good corners. Congrats on being great at that.

People truly underrated DK. He wasn't a top 3 WR but he IS a pure #1 WR.

JSN is good, very good, but he's a lower end #1 and Kupp. Well, let's hope him and Darnold can figure it out.
Depending on what source you want to look at most of them have Metcalf outside of the top 20. Considering his physical attributes he should have had a Megatron or Randy Moss type of career but he is far from it

Have him go where Reek is, and he'll have a field day. Reek doesn't attack the football. Shoot, half the time he just looks like he doesn't care. He'd rather go for a pick than knock the ball down.

DK's a happy boy after reading this thread; he started to realize his trade request was the right decision. Dot Netters helped DK close a chapter.
