It's not all about the HR derby itself, it's about the rest the body needs more than the actual derby. He's been going at it for 6 months straight with extremely limited off days.

Raleigh's record-breaking home run also marked his ninth multi-home run game of the season, passing Mickey Mantle (eight for the 1961 New York Yankees) for most multi-home run games by a switch-hitter in a season in major league history. I missed both of Cal's RR's yesterday as I was outside working in the yard. It was too nice of a day to spend indoors for 3.5 hours watching a baseball game.

Cal's having a fantastic season, but I don't think he has a chance of getting the MVP. Aaron Judge, although now nursing an injury, is hitting nearly 80 points higher than Cal with a respectable 40 HR's. There's also the question if the Mariners make the playoffs. I would have a hard time voting for a player on a non playoff team as MVP.

Cal's next milestone will be Mickey Mantle's 54 home runs in one season for a switch hitter, a record that has stood since 1961, the year his teammate Roger Maris hit his 61 dingers.

It's nice to have the Mariners doing well. I've lost a lot of my passion for baseball due mainly to the Mariners' two decades worth of futility. I'm trying to rekindle my interest in the game.

Cal absolutely DOES have a chance to get MVP. Not likely because Judge exists, but Cal has a real shot. The guy is literally having the best year a catcher has EVER had in the history of the game. He's also playing a hell of a lot harder position than RF.
Also, what if Cal was doing this in NY? Just sayin.
It should be MOST VALUABLE PLAYER. He absolutely is the most valuable player in the AL. Voters can't ignore that he's doing this is as a catcher.

Actually, there is a separate tally of HRs while playing catcher. Perez's record had a few games at DH or 1B IIRC.

Last I heard, the record for HRs while playing catcher was somewhere in the 30's. Cal should be close to 40 by now I would think.

Yes, I know. Cal has hit 40 while catching. The record is 42 by Javy Lopez in 2003, who hit all but 1 of his 43 as a catcher. Cal's HR yesterday was as a DH, which is why I said there was no progress on that record. I think you were mixing that up with Salvador Perez, who only hit 33 of his 48 as a catcher.
