90 percent of NFL placekickers will give their fans a panic attack when they line up for a kick. Myers made 86.7% of his FG attempts last year, which is more than respectable. I'm not sure if you can find a kicker on the market who will do better than that. If there was, he would have been signed by some other team. As a point of comparison, Harrison Butker of the Chiefs, regarded as one of the best kickers in the league, made 84%.

A lot of teams suffer with kickers who are making less than 80% of their kicks. Jake Moody of the 49ers made 70.6% of his kicks last year. Evan McPherson made 72.7%.

These guys are not machines, they're human. They're going to miss kicks no matter how good they are. (Unless you're 40-year-old Nick Folk. He seems to have gotten better with age, making 29 out of 30 in 2023 and 21 out of 22 in 2024. And he's a guy who washed out of the NFL at age 33 and played in the American Alliance league for a while.)

Dude is money not sure what all the hand wringing is about. One of the best kickers we've ever had.

Jason Myers' missed field goals in the 2023 and 2024 seasons did have significant consequences for the Seahawks' playoff hopes, though the impact varied between the two years. Here's a breakdown:

2023 Season (Miss vs. Rams)

  • Game Impact: Myers missed a 55-yard game-winning field goal wide right in Week 11 against the Rams, resulting in a 17-16 loss.
  • Playoff Implications:
    • The Seahawks finished the season 9-8, one game behind the Rams (10-7) for the NFC West title. Had Myers made that kick, Seattle would have tied the Rams in record and held the head-to-head tiebreaker (assuming other results stayed the same).
    • Instead, the Rams won the division, and the Seahawks missed the playoffs entirely.
    • This loss was part of a late-season collapse where Seattle lost 5 of their last 7 games, with Myers' miss being a pivotal moment.

2024 Season (Miss vs. Vikings)

  • Game Impact: Myers missed a 60-yard game-tying field goal late in the fourth quarter against the Vikings, sealing a 27-24 loss.
  • Playoff Implications:
    • The Seahawks entered Week 17 at 8-7 and needed a win to stay alive in the playoff race. The loss to Minnesota dropped them to 8-8, effectively eliminating them from contention.
    • Even if Myers had made the kick to force overtime, Seattle’s defense was struggling, and a win wasn’t guaranteed. However, the miss ensured no chance of extending their season.

Conclusion

  • 2023: Myers' miss against the Rams was a direct contributor to Seattle missing the playoffs, as it cost them a critical divisional game that could have altered tiebreakers.
  • 2024: The Vikings miss was more of a final nail in the coffin, as Seattle’s playoff chances were already slim, but it confirmed their elimination.
While Myers has been mostly reliable, these two misses were pivotal in playoff-deciding moments.

Pete might have hung on for another season if Myers made that kick.

He's a kicker. Kickers make me nervous. He can be streaky for sure. But overall, I think the Hawks could do a lot worse than Jason Myers.
They can & they have.

I don't forget that they chose Janikowski over Meyers in 2018. Meyers went on to make the pro bowl that year. Seattle was lucky the Jets, who are allergic to success, chose not to keep him.

Nah, it was time, way past time. Also, losing 5 of 7 to finish, can't just blame the kicker. That is a team collapse, and it starts with Pete and the coaching staff. This is a guy who actually thought Geno was a good choice at QB.
So I’m guessing you don’t think Geno was a good choice! :ROFLMAO:

I know it's hard to tell, but I wasn't a huge Geno fan. Shocking, I know 🍺

Like Mael said, his ability to almost miss kicks is impressive.

Had a look at kicking stats for last year:

PAT: Myers was 37/40 only Karty and Hopkins missed more as a percentage of attempts
FG <40: 10/10 about half had one or more miss
FG 40-50: 7/8 only 3 were perfect with about half missing more than 1
FG 50+: 9/12 About average

So pretty much matches what people said his PATs were poor but being perfect on short FGs makes me think it was at least partially down to chance. Probably slightly above average beyond 40 yards, though the 50+ stats are very dependent on what you are asked for ther is a big difference in the expectation for a 51 yard attempt and a 65 yard attempt (only 3 players had a long more than Myers 59yds but 4 others tied it).

Overall middle of the road stats for a kicker but we are paying well over average salary for him, by no means a must cut but it is certainly an option.
Good stuff. Thanks.
