Something I’m worried about…

I think I like the Dickson signing… dude can flip the field… I think he’s earned it.

Defense is going to be legit…

Offense has the tools… I think we’ll be better without DK (though I was a fan)…

Offensive line needs improvement… but coming along…

But… for whatever reason… I feel like, looking at the schedule, we are going to be in a lot of close games (per usual)…

I’m worried about Myers… dude worries me. Nothing 40 yards and in seems easy (I’m not aware of stats so don’t throw that shit at me) … I’m just not confident in him. Tell me differently… you trust him? 10-7 to 12-5 or whatever we’ll end up requires a reliable PK. I can’t overlook it.

It is kind of odd that it seems he does better on long kicks than short ones, but I don't know that he is worse than any other kicker in the league. I do like that if we get the ball to the 35-40 yard line he's better than 50% accurate IIRC.

Had a look at kicking stats for last year:

PAT: Myers was 37/40 only Karty and Hopkins missed more as a percentage of attempts
FG <40: 10/10 about half had one or more miss
FG 40-50: 7/8 only 3 were perfect with about half missing more than 1
FG 50+: 9/12 About average

So pretty much matches what people said his PATs were poor but being perfect on short FGs makes me think it was at least partially down to chance. Probably slightly above average beyond 40 yards, though the 50+ stats are very dependent on what you are asked for ther is a big difference in the expectation for a 51 yard attempt and a 65 yard attempt (only 3 players had a long more than Myers 59yds but 4 others tied it).

Overall middle of the road stats for a kicker but we are paying well over average salary for him, by no means a must cut but it is certainly an option.

I used to be concerned about homie, but he's been solid. Even if his PATs look like they're barely going in, haha.
He's the best kicker in football. The accuracy required to purposefully boot the ball directly at the upright but *just* squeak it in over 90% of the time is astounding. He's basically doing trick shots.

We are gonna need a good kicker. Offense is all new. So we will see who shows up. Alot of Pat's superbowls were boring...resting on the kicker.

Seems like he has missed more PATs than FGs. We lost a game on that account, and one game can be crucial. Compare 11/6 to 10/7. Big difference.
I've never understood a lot of teams' failure to take care of their kicking game. I was very disappointed when we didn't re-sign Hauschka. We wouldn't pay him so he signed with Buffalo, where he had a good season. We went with Blair Walsh, who didn't have a good season. Stats for both for the year before and the year after were also completely in Hauschka's favor. But Walsh was practically free in 2017 and the Bills paid Hauschka about what he earned with Seattle the year before.

We went from 10-5-1 to 9-7. Buffalo went from 7-9 to 9-7.

Some think that paying Dickson so much was a mistake, but he might be the reason we weren't 9-8 last year.

Not "worried" about Myers at all. He's at times a streaky kicker and that all. He's usually nails under pressure but inconsistent when it's less important, that is frustrating to watch for sure.

The something I'm worried about is the pass rush as it would seem the team really doesn't have "that special guy" that needs to be accounted for. Once again it will be pass rush by committee and if one of the guys we have gets nicked up, like last year, the pass rush could once again be somewhat underwhelming.

Offensive line needs improvement… but coming along…

Our front office and coaching staff effectively identified Geno Smith and DK Metcalf as the primary reasons for our offensive line's past problems. Solution? out went Geno and DK, and yes Lockett too. To pacify the fan base, we even drafted a lineman who can play all 5 positions.

Our OL shall shine this season, no doubt about it.

Though I don't think Zabel can play all 5 positions at the same time. :p
Regarding Geno and DK being the primary reasons for our O-lines past problems we will see what happens next seaon. If it is much better then either they were right (or the primary cause was the OC), if it is as bad as it was last year then they were wrong.

Most (including me) would argue that it was the other way around;i.e-the o-line caused problems for Geno (although he could implode regardless). It did for Russell as well. Not all management's fault, as they have had lots of injuries in the OL, and they did draft Ifedi in the first round, which was an unpredictable failure. Other than Zabel, which was a huge pick, they chose two other OL players this year, so they're making an effort. So I think it will be difficult to compare Darnold and this year's OL with Geno and last year's.

I'm not worried. We're getting TD's on every drive. Screw this FG BS.
It's much more exciting football to watch a team who has lost its placekicker, when they're in the red zone. You see it in college all the time. Or you can just have Dan Campbell's attitude, regardless of the placekicker..
