It's a reasonable deal for both sides.

This is speculation on my part, but seeing what he was willing to sign for, very likely he would have taken the same amount from the Seahawks.

Schneider and Macdonald just made the decision at one point that they would rather roll with Darnold rather than wait for Geno. Geno did not choose to go to the Raiders, he was traded there. Unlike DK, he did not ask to be traded. I think that it was a bit squirrelly of Schneider to suggest that Geno was going to ask for the moon, when clearly, he was not.

Schneider did clarify in later interviews that Geno at no point ask to be traded, and that it was his decision to "pivot" after not immediately hearing back from Geno's agent on the Seahawks' offer. So clearly, Schneider could have insisted on getting an answer if he felt strongly enough about Geno. I think that Schneider (and Macdonald) just believed that Darnold was the better option. It's a little funny that he not taking full responsibility for that decision, and making it appear as if it was all Geno's doing.

Well there’s no way Schneider should take full responsibility if Geno’s side didn’t respond. If I asked a girl out and didn’t hear back right away, no way am I gong to contact her again insisting on an answer. Or any other type of negotiation for that matter.

Hilarious it took this long. Don't worry Pete, he'll whine about how much he's making in a year or two. Enjoy that headache.

2 years, 85.5 mil. For geDIOCRE gePICK? View attachment 70637
I said it myself how hilarious it would be if Geno got around the same as Darnold after all that delay....

And he gets this after weeks of waiting.

I'm friggin' DYING, man. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

a few more details. 2 year $75 million extension. $66.5 million guaranteed. Incentives could push it to $85.5 million. This extension starts after this next season
Keep in mind that Darnold has ZERO incentives in comparison.

Enjoy him, Vegas.

I saw a theory somewhere that Geno and his camp may have purposefully been waiting. The goal being that Seattle wouldn't have any options as all other options would be gone.

Made sense when I read it. That being said though, I actually figured he would have gotten a bit more from the Raiders since they traded to get him.

Or maybe he really did want to just re-unite with Pete. Either way happy for him and hopefully he got what he actually wanted.

I'm pretty certain that the Raiders were the only team that wanted Geno. That is only because of Pete Carroll. As desperate as the Browns are for a QB, I don't think they would have made an offer to the Seahawks for him. He's not as highly touted around the league as some of folks on here would like to believe he is.

A few thoughts:
  1. The original leak that Schneider offered a $35 mil a year extension was likely legit.
  2. The follow-up leak that Schneider offered a $45 mil a year extension was likely untrue. It leaked to make Geno looked like a uppity QB with no manner, and John Schneider a victim, the kind uncle that was mistreated.
  3. For the same money, Geno Smith would rather play on a team without a GM who said: "He is a starter until he isn't." An ultimate disrespect to any starting QB fresh out of a Pro Bowl year.
  4. BOTH old Smith and young Sam Darnold didn't have teams pursuing them, no multiple offers to drive up the $.
  5. Geno was never a Schneider player. Why? Schneider traded for Lock, but Pete gave Geno a shot, Geno outplayed Lock. Then Schneider again traded for Howell, but again, Geno outplayed Howell. Between Lock and Howell, there was the famous "he is a starter until he isn't".
  6. Sorry guys, Howell was brought in to replace Geno Smith.
  7. John Schneider was the founder, Godfather, and CEO of club geNO.
John Schneider, ably helped by Willie Schneider is cleansing the team of Pete guys, purity my 12s, we shall have a pure Schneider team soon, very soon.

Damn…I understand everyone’s sentiments here.

But, I feel like Geno is/was better than Sam in our new offense.

Just a ‘feeling’…please don’t be harsh on me!!

🫣
I think it's a wash, and Sam might even be a better fit, and this is coming from a Geno apologist

And I've yet to get answer from him as to how he knows he's (Geno) better if he never played in a Kubiak offense, though?

How do you know he's better if he never played in a Kubiak offense, though? 🤔
Just picturing the throws, decision making, boost in an already robust proficiency.

But, you’re correct. I don’t know.

Man…Oz…the thing that ‘gets’ me is the whole O-line thing.

By many metrics, we were dead last or close to it (31st on PFF).

I know we made an offer to Geno and if players don’t want to be here, see-ya!!

If our line was decent, we wouldn’t be having this conversation because everyone would eat!

I’m holding on to the fact that we’re rather young up front…and more than any other position group sans QB,O-linemen often need time to mature.

If Darnold comes in ripping it up, perhaps this perspective is null and void.
You may very well be right. Geno is so hard to figure out because he does do some things really well and Darnold could very well fall flat here. I hope not though

Becomes the league's 17th highest-paid QB.
Great bargain for the Raiders. And they can still land a QB if they want but I think it would be a waste of a first round rookie contracts IMO ala Falcons 2024.
