It has a total value of $85.5m, but that extra $10.5m is an incentive based on averaging fewer than five dumb-ass throws in the red zone per game, so in reality it's $75m.
Well there’s no way Schneider should take full responsibility if Geno’s side didn’t respond. If I asked a girl out and didn’t hear back right away, no way am I gong to contact her again insisting on an answer. Or any other type of negotiation for that matter. It's a reasonable deal for both sides.
This is speculation on my part, but seeing what he was willing to sign for, very likely he would have taken the same amount from the Seahawks.
Schneider and Macdonald just made the decision at one point that they would rather roll with Darnold rather than wait for Geno. Geno did not choose to go to the Raiders, he was traded there. Unlike DK, he did not ask to be traded. I think that it was a bit squirrelly of Schneider to suggest that Geno was going to ask for the moon, when clearly, he was not.
Schneider did clarify in later interviews that Geno at no point ask to be traded, and that it was his decision to "pivot" after not immediately hearing back from Geno's agent on the Seahawks' offer. So clearly, Schneider could have insisted on getting an answer if he felt strongly enough about Geno. I think that Schneider (and Macdonald) just believed that Darnold was the better option. It's a little funny that he not taking full responsibility for that decision, and making it appear as if it was all Geno's doing.

Seahawks wanted to keep Geno Smith and DK Metcalf but had to pivot, GM says
GM John Schneider thought he could resolve DK Metcalf's trade request, while it was "pretty evident" Geno Smith and Seattle were far apart.www.nytimes.com
I said it myself how hilarious it would be if Geno got around the same as Darnold after all that delay....Hilarious it took this long. Don't worry Pete, he'll whine about how much he's making in a year or two. Enjoy that headache.
2 years, 85.5 mil. For geDIOCRE gePICK? View attachment 70637
Keep in mind that Darnold has ZERO incentives in comparison.![]()
Source: Raiders, QB Smith reach $75M extension
The Raiders have agreed to a two-year, $75 million extension with quarterback Geno Smith, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.www.espn.com
a few more details. 2 year $75 million extension. $66.5 million guaranteed. Incentives could push it to $85.5 million. This extension starts after this next season
How do you know he's better if he never played in a Kubiak offense, though?Damn…I understand everyone’s sentiments here.
But, I feel like Geno is/was better than Sam in our new offense.
Just a ‘feeling’…please don’t be harsh on me!!

I saw a theory somewhere that Geno and his camp may have purposefully been waiting. The goal being that Seattle wouldn't have any options as all other options would be gone. It's a reasonable deal for both sides.

I think it's a wash, and Sam might even be a better fit, and this is coming from a Geno apologistDamn…I understand everyone’s sentiments here.

And I've yet to get answer from him as to how he knows he's (Geno) better if he never played in a Kubiak offense, though?I think it's a wash, and Sam might even be a better fit, and this is coming from a Geno apologist
Just picturing the throws, decision making, boost in an already robust proficiency. How do you know he's better if he never played in a Kubiak offense, though?![]()
You may very well be right. Geno is so hard to figure out because he does do some things really well and Darnold could very well fall flat here. I hope not thoughMan…Oz…the thing that ‘gets’ me is the whole O-line thing.
By many metrics, we were dead last or close to it (31st on PFF).
I know we made an offer to Geno and if players don’t want to be here, see-ya!!
If our line was decent, we wouldn’t be having this conversation because everyone would eat!
I’m holding on to the fact that we’re rather young up front…and more than any other position group sans QB,O-linemen often need time to mature.
If Darnold comes in ripping it up, perhaps this perspective is null and void.
Great bargain for the Raiders. And they can still land a QB if they want but I think it would be a waste of a first round rookie contracts IMO ala Falcons 2024.Becomes the league's 17th highest-paid QB.
Agreed, really happy Geno got paid (again) and I wish him well in Vegas. He just wanted to be with Pete. We knew this all along. Happy for him.
