Draft picks are resources. The entire lines is on rookie contracts thus not expensive. There are really good pieces on this line they just need time.

A combination of FA, draft and trading are all avenues needed to build or maintain a roster.

If we are talking about the IOL contracts given out so far, imo none of them have been way over the top. Even the 5 years on fries is just a 2 year obligation albeit quite a bit of guaranteed for those 2 years - 7th most guaranteed to a guard currently.
Aaron Banks was overpaid imo but none of these contracts should hurt a franchise.

Here is what the teams are obligated to in years and guaranteed money for the top FA IOL this offseason:

Drew Dalman 2yr / $28M
Will Fries 2yr / $44M
Aaron Banks 1yr / $27M
James Daniels 1yr / $10.7M
Kevin Zeitler 1yr / $8.75M
Mekhi Becton (2yr / $20M total, no details yet)


Daniels, Becton and Zeitler were very good deals imo. I imagine Jenkins will only command a similar deal. OC Dalman was a good deal also.

Yeah, I posted something along these lines a couple of days ago. Given the cash cow the NFL is now, the rising CAP and salaries, it wasn't like these teams were going way over the top for these OLmen given the reality of it all. We're just not willing, for whatever the reason, to pay up to fix the glaring problem of our OLine.

You think the current team can win more than 10 games? That is bold given the other teams in the NFC will improve with the draft too not just the Seahawks.

I was not asking about the draft, of course other teams will (should) improve with the draft. I specifically asked if just the improvement in coaching and with more time to play together would make any difference in the W column.

the greatness of our famous Schneider Line cannot be measured by merely salary cap. The Schneider line is much loved by coaches around the league for the past decade or so, now, that is respect!

He's not the GM, but regardless, Pete likes his second round RBs. The only time he took one in the first here, he traded down from 18 to 27.

It would be a good selection if they feel good about other areas of the team and the do intend on signing more free agents post draft.

I personally think it is a luxury pick for the Raiders but they are more likely to draft a trench player or WR at their first pick.

2020- 26.6M (26th)
2021- 26.9M (22nd)
2022- 23.5M (28th)
2023- 20.5M (30th)
2024- 21.1M (32nd)

18 individual offensive linemen are set to have higher cap hits in 2025 than the entire Seahawks starting unit.

This OL spending has a direct correlation to our OL performance/ranking.
I am not saying we should have absolutely spent FA money on OL if the fit wasn't there or a deal couldn't be swung.
But what I am saying is at this point we need to use 3 of our top 5 picks on OL. There are IOL questions, there are ? At OT & contracts coming up, there is no strong hold at center. The aforementioned coupled with the fact we have ranked near league worst dictates multiple picks go to OL. Part of this reasoning is.
1) This has been let go for too long, action must be taken. Too much riding on it at this point.
2) There is no other position in such disrepair & urgent need to use draft picks for anything over OL.
3) If we use 3 top picks, maybe one or two will be notable upgrades and move the needle up for this offensive line.
4) This is the draft to do it, a strong OL class with a few versatile players with potential talent to stick in this league, but most will be gone before day 3 starts.
5) Spend the draft resource now and the offense will be that much further ahead towards a turn a round. Also will have insurance towards OT contracts coming up and ultimately save a bunch of cap $ we can spend towards vital contract extentions in 26' throughout the roster.
6) Drafting three OL will add talent & competition resulting in ++ help for Darnold, our WR group, the run-game and less minutes for our defense.
7) I basically wrote this because I know JS won't do it and I like to be right.

I think you're being too conservative going with only 3. I'd say 4 out of our first 5 picks now must be OL. We need a minimum of 2 rookies being able to start right away *and* be an upgrade.
