Well, that bad finish to the season probably ended any hopes of McCarthy becoming available.

Not sure how many eggs I'd want to put in the Darnold basket, but I think he'd be an OK gamble for us. He looked phenomenal most of the season. People keep talking like he had some elite OL, but I was under the impression that it dropped off hard after Christian Darrisaw blew out his knee in week 8. They certainly didn't have much of a run game to take pressure off him.
Darnold plus Dart = Flynn plus Russ

I say roll with Howell and draft a QB let them fight it out. Worked before.

Didn’t 2012 play out like that or some such similar crazy shit ?

I find it very interesting that Howell is leading. If he weren’t on the roster, I don’t think he would even get one vote.

Because he’s on the roster, that means he’s best quarterback for the team? Really?

Sam Darnold. Draft a QB to develop, whichever one they believe in. Don’t care if it’s Dart in the 1st or Ewers in the 3rd or Cook in the 6th or anything in between.
I’m starting to think this is my preferred plan as well.

Wow. 104 votes cast and only 13 for Sam Darnold. Going to be a lot of disappointed folks Monday morning

The answer for me would be Geno goddamn Smith, but I can't have that so onward we ball.

Out of these options, I guess I like Darnold the best but I'm almost starting to lean Fields for the simple fact that his rushing threat could really help our outside zone based Kubiak rushing attack like Elway did for Denver in the 90s. Plus he'll be cheaper.

If we keep DK I would want Darnold. He has a legit NFL arm and deep ball. If DK is gone I could live with Justin Fields. It makes some sense but his accuracy is truly terrible though.

Yeah, its not great regarding Fields overall accuracy. I have always enjoyed Darnold's arm though. He reminds me of Geno in that way where he'll have a couple of absolute ropes in a game. I'm a sucker for QBs that have that effortless pop when they flick the ball. Same reason I was enamored with Maye.

All I think most of us want is a qb who can improve every season. Last year, maybe before this time I don't remember, but I really wanted us to be able to draft Cam Ward. My thought was, shit, I wonder what he could do with a decent line and a good running game. I think he answered that this year by going to The Hurricanes, and now he's going to be a top pick. I hope the best for Geno, and I hope he does well in Vegas. It was time though AND we got a third for him. I'm really hoping we imrpove the line and somehow get McCord in the draft.

The questions you had for Cam Ward are the ones I had for Geno, and man, I thought I might get to see it this year. I probably will... just not here, unfortunately. I didn't think it was time, but I'm not calling the shots. Just hope it isn't an eternal regret that I couldn't see him do more here.

Ok i agree on that aspect, but would you sign him to 45ish million per year over 3 years? Would that be a gamble you are willing to take? That's where I was saying it was time to get what we got in return. I really hope he balls out in Vegas

Howard of Ohio State. He has my vote. We will pick him up at pick 92.
he's so bad even our resident Ohio state fan doesn't want him. His combine numbers were horrific. He threw ok but man I'm not seeing anything that leads me to believe he would even make a serviceable back up much less an NFL starter.

If the other option is Darnold at like 30-35, I would've paid Geno that, yeah. I feel like Geno deserves to be paid that based on his film, fundamental aptitude, arm talent, and generally competitive operation under very hard circumstances. That $45m/yr. extension would put him at only the 13th or 14th average yearly value for QBs at the time of signing.

I think 45 sounds like a top contract still because the cap keeps rising at an outrageous pace, but 45 mil is pretty middling. For guys who place Geno at like 12th to 18th best in the league, that'd be a commensurate extension with his value. For guys like me who think he could be top 10 easily if we fix the things we've needed to fix for like a decade, I even see it as a good value.

Now I know that's against the grain here, but hey, that's just how I see it. I make no effort to conceal that I'm a huge fan of Geno's game, but I hope it doesn't come off as mindless fandom so much as me being sold on him over the years I've spent watching how he operates.

If they sign Darnold at 35+ I won't be happy, I would be expecting results quickly. I would be happy to see what we have with a drafted qb and Howell if it's going to cost that much. If there was a way we could trade up and get Ward id be excited as hell! I think he has a higher ceiling than Geno, but almost the same game
