Carter is an excellent young player, but Hawks issues aren’t because of defensive line. Spoon impacts this team and fits well.

Carter's talent and athleticism couldn't be denied. But let's not pretend that there weren't red flags hoisted around this guy. Even his college coach raised one. He was a gamble.

Good on him that he righted his ship. And Spoon's talent is nothing to sneeze at. He's a lot more than a mere consolation prize.

I wanted Carter back then and was disappointed in the Spoon pick. Spoon has far exceeded my expectations (as has Carter) and it was a good consolation prize. But when you have a shot at a game wrecker you roll the dice. Same thing will a potential stud OL (or any OL with potential). We need to start learning that, but I have high hopes now with MM.

Is it a guarantee that Carter would have had the same success in Seattle?

Nope and I do think Philly was the perfect spot as he had multiple people he knew and oooked up to to keep him in line.

Carter, Murphy and Williams would be ridiculous though lol.

Carter plays the same position as Jarran Reed and they had nearly identical stat lines, so I think we made the right choice.

Witherspoon is a tone-setter on defense too, which is a big plus for me.

Yeah I don't blame anyone for passing on him because he certainly could have went either way and that's a big risk for a non QB at 5. Good for him on turning it around. I do think he fell to a good spot where there was some quality vets and high character guys Georgia guys there to help.

Hopefully Mac has figured out how to use Spoon to his full abilities. The first half of the season was hard to watch but the second half was fun to watch.

I love Spoon and have high hopes for Murphy.

The thought of having Carter and Verse…it makes me moist. Real moist.

Exactly. It's easy to say one way or the other in hindsight. And I know a few fans wanted that pick anyway. But the red flags were numerous. From the car crash involvement thing, decision making, to his work ethic and willing to put in the effort to stay in game shape and giving it all for an entire game. There was A LOT of red flags.

In hindsight, as much as I love Spoon, I'd take Carter too. But I was ok with the Hawks not risking it at the time. But it definitely would have changed the outcome of the following draft also.

Was it Pete or John, that's all I wanna know? If it was Pete like many suspect, did John at least pound the table for this guy? "Oh, a bad apple burned us before so we can't take one ever again even if he's a generational talent at a tough to fill position." Friggin morons. SMH. Franchise altering move right there.

With as many red flags there was against Carter, I am pretty sure they were both in agreement
