Bottom line is players matter. Coaching can only do so much. We all saw what BB looked like with and without Brady. Phil Jackson isn't winning titles without MJ. MM might be a good coach, he might not. But I do know this, the roster isn't very good right now. There are some holes, but far too many injuries.

A lot of teams have the same "problems" that we have now. Now that the dust has settled, and other teams have played their week 6 games, I don't feel as bad about the 3 games.
I forgot we had a boat load of dead money going to our ex safetys (purposely taken all in one year) and no 2nd round pick.
Watching the cowboys get stomped by the lions yesterday, and reading fans reactions , made me realize we don't have it that bad.

On a side note
I'm sure everyone would agree that Murphy would have been drafted in the 1st round regardless of who was head coach.
Since no 2nd round pick, they really only 3rd rounders + to "distinguish" themselves.

I support this post.

I dont see Mike as the type to wilt under pressure.

Folks who are panning him already apparnetly havent lesrned there lesson from the failures of the PC regime.

Its not just Mike. Its Mike AND his coordinators. He's the orchestrator of the D, calls the D, but it takes more than just him to keep things tight during the game when he's running the entire team. Durdy is also growing into his role and learning on the job, not just the scheme, but how to teach it hard-nosed on the sidelines. Then there are the other position coaches who need to also be operating optimally.

It does all stop with Mike. But its 6 weeks in to a new song for everyone. And the last 3 havent exactly been cakewalks (more DET and SF).

This 💯.

I’m a middle school coach and a select few wonder why the team isn’t doing as well this year.

I’d like to say “because these kids are PUSSIES” but the political response is “they’re behind on development”.

Need the players.

All this talk of missing Pete and wondering if Mike is not the best choice for head coach I just have one thing to add.

Honestly for me the Jury's out. 3 barnburners. 3 losses.

Heard alot of talk about what's getting fixed. I've said it before recently - seems like when teams got film on us after a few games, we got figured out.

Other than harping on personnel, I'd just like to see it fixed. Guess we'll see at the 1/2, 3/4 mark and end of the season.

I'm not saying "Fire Mike" at this point by any stretch. He could pull a rabbit out of a hat, sure.

I will also say that starting the trickle down effect, and blaming co-ordinators, and then players seems VERY MORA-ESQUE to me. Just sayin. This is on him. You have the cards you're dealt. When your OC says that he 'forgot to call the runs'. That's you dude. Fix it. And now please. When you got a receiver taking headsets off a coach on the sidelines to beak at, presumably the OC, that's yours to fix. Fix it please. When you have un-motivated players not revving each other up, and walking out of the tunnel - that's yours to fix. Fix it please.

He totally had me swooning at "I'd cut you right now except for the guaranteed money." Haven't 'seen' much of that - just heard it.

One other thing I will say: I was pro Dan Quinn, and watching both him and Dan Campbell yesterday, they are both the coaching temperament that I would like to see here, granted Quinn is the baby version of Campbell - well, I was like a kid with his face pressed up on the pet shop window.

He's let some thing break or slide. Now is the time to get that shit together. Right now (queue Van Halen in the background) :)

Just sayin.

The next game could be an early defining moment for our young Macdonald. The team played 3 games in 11 days, poorly at times, unspirited in others. After 10 days of rest and regrouping, the next game would be telling if they came out hungry for revenge, or the same unspirited bunch.

I really think not playing three galldarn games in 11 days will be a huge help.
Against good teams nonetheless.

That Giants team is a bit underrated imo…

Back to your post - I can’t imagine playing 3 games in 11 days at the NFL level. Thats so much wear/tear on one’s body…with no recovery in between. Tbh, it should be regulated much better.

the next game, the game after 9 days of rest will provide a hint to the state of our boys. They had a tough three games in 10 days, and played poorly. We shall see how the coaching staff and players pull together in the next game. If they boys came out after a 10 days rest and played just like the previous 3 games, we may have a problem. I am quite sure the we shall see a different team come Sunday,

Agreed.

Although I thought the Lions and Giants and 49ers games were benchmark/yardstick games for us, for varying reasons, and we shit the bed on those.

As much as I love NFL football, I think Thursday Night games have to go. It's way too hard on the players. It's obvious, and I think the majority of them would agree.
Agreed!!

I agree with you on those three games, and indeed we didn't play well. What worried me was the combination of having so many rookie coaches, and players looking indifferent / umspirited.

The next game will be telling if the coaches rights the locker room, or otherwise.

Everyone take a deep breath and go back to before the draft and what the holes were, O line, yep still has issues, D line yep still has issues, but more about depth and injuries rather then talent, QB Geno can play, yes when you become a one dimensional offense you are going to have picks and with our line struggle even more. Linebacker, again depth, the starters have shown they are adequate at least versus the dumpster fire we thought before we brought in our F.A.

Holes, good teams have depth, we are still filling out starters, two more drafts I think and for the O line to either get it or get out of town for the next guy.
