I randomly checked NFL.com to see who they got for predictions, and to no surprise everybody picked the Lions. With 3/4 of our front 7 probably not playing I can see why. I still think it's because the NFL doesn't like the PNW for whatever reason.

Just accept it, after almost 40 years of this, I have.

The default perspective of the Seattle Seahawks by the national (east coast) media is that the Hawks are a glorified CFL/Arena League team that plays in South Alaska that takes 16 hours to fly to with multiple layovers, midair refuelings and a donkey ride to the stadium. When the Seahawks win, it's because the other teams blew it. When we lose, it's Status Quo. Everything we accomplish will be downplayed, no matter what.

That is why our fanbase grew such an enormous chip on our shoulders for enduring the east coast mediots vomiting out of the top of their necks the usual clap trap week in and week out for literally decades. Well boys, it's back, and that chip should start growing again after the Pete Carroll/Legion of Boom/Marshawn Lynch/Super Bowl honeymoon is long over. I actually welcome it, because I think our players perform better when they're not being stroked by scum of society sports journalists. Leave that to the media darlings, we'll just get better and kick this league's ass and they won't even see it coming.

Send it.

ESPN just put the hawks ranked at 4 after beating 3 teams that aren't exactly the top of the NFL and none of those wins were exactly absolute thrashings either. MM is yet to coach a game in primetime, it is against a very quality opponent and on the road. I don't think there is any real bias for the experts picking the Lions in this game. I think their expert picks is honestly the appropriate pick for anyone not wearing green and blue tinted glasses. That being said I'm sure they also all made their picks full well knowing they could be wrong, it's not exactly a match up between #1 and #32 either.

The LOB Seahawks kind of killed that mindset. Sure they talk about the premiere teams most of the time, because that's what sells. Their fanbases are indeed larger and drive more money/views. The Hawks have already established themselves as a major team in the NFL now. But yes our fanbase is comparatively smaller than the other teams, it just is, and probably always will be.

Washington STATE (the entire STATE) has a population of like 8 Million people. The New York City Metro Area has a population of like 18 Million. We're not even talking about the rest of the east coast major cities. You can call it a bias, but it's also just that...the Seahawks really are small market compared to the majority of people in this country who live on the East Coast.

If you want to talk bias...my other team...Gonzaga has already established themselves as a blue blood in college basketball for the last 20+ years. But they don't get talked about for the same obvious reasons. Is the respect there? absolutely. But they won't waste their breath talking about a team that most of the NCAA basketball watching community doesn't really care about. Hell Seattle doesn't even want to talk about Gonzaga....and its in the same state

I agree with several of your points, but I disagree that the east coast bias mindset was killed by the LOB. When the Seahawks aren't contending for Superbowls, the default opinion and perspective of the average sports journalist and fan on the east coast is what I said in my previous post. Not that this makes me an expert, but I lived on the east coast for 16 years and got to know that mindset very well.
You're right, comparitively we're a small market team. But when our successes are routinely dismissed as miscues or bad games by our opponents, there's something else at play. It's gotten better, but the east coast doesn't like to acknowledge the west coast, regardless of league or sport, when it comes to success.

You saw it last year for the Huskies as well. Didn't get a lot of respect until later in the season and I still think Penix should have won the heisman. No one in the west coast outside of USC will likely win a Heisman even when merited. Arguable same with Christian McCaffrey being snubbed over Derrick Henry.

I think Gonzagas problem is not being in a power conference. If they move to even a future PAC conference they might.

The LOB era got national respect but it took time to build it. It's going to take the current seahawks toppling the 9ers to get that respect in my opinion.

I think it helps that these days we have people like Mina Kimes fighting our corner a bit. Sometimes Cowherd when it suits (he's one of the few that thought we might be good this year) and he's not kissing up to USC, Rams or Sean Payton. Not sure we had that in the 80s and 90s.

The media is largely picking against us this week, but I think it's a sign that they're coming around a bit that nearly all of them think this team will be extremely competitive on the road against a team that was one dumbass coach decision in the NFCCG from the Super Bowl last year. I'm seeing very few predicting a final of more than one score; a lot of 24-20 or 27-21 types.
