Pitt knows more than Andy Reid and the franchise that traded up to get Patrick Mahomes, I suppose

Not even sure what this cheapshot was about, but I highly doubt sitting one season behind Alex Smith made a huge difference in Patrick Mahomes career. The guy was going to be great no matter what.

So was Trubisky, who was taken several spots ahead of Mahomes.

It's possible to gamble and lose big on new QBs out of college.

Add some more talent to the offensive line with some better guards and Geno would take us to the Super Bowl! And probably win it!

Especially, with this offensive system and this coaching staff—man, I can’t see why Geno couldn’t win Seattle a Super Bowl!

Would he have been? There have been many QB's that have been ruined because they were thrown to the wolves too soon. Not every QB is ready to start from day one, nor do they have a great grasp of the offense.

The fact is the Chiefs traded up to number 10 and gave up significant capital to acquire Mahomes, then they proceeded to give Alex Smith the nod as starter. This is despite the fact that the Chiefs were an 11 win team. Why do you think that they started Smith over Mahomes?

The answer can only be one thing, Reid didn't think he was ready yet. That one year can go a long way. The first benefit is having a greater mastery of the offense. Coming in year two if you did your homework, you have a good grasp of the playbook and all of the moving parts that are needed to make things work. In addition to that the QB has a whole year of experience preparing for opponents, film study, and experience observing what a veteran needs to do to stay relevant in the NFL. Let's not forget an additional year of developing chemistry with the wide receivers and TE's.

The NFL game is very different from the collegiate game. There are things that you can get away with in college that you can't at the NFL level. The speed is different and your throwing windows are much tighter and shorter. In the collegiate game, those passing windows are doors in many cases. The defenses and offensive structure and even the rules/fields are different.

Mahomes was not destined to be great no matter what he did, not even the NFL thought that. It was a combination of being brought up underneath one of, if not the greatest offensive minds in the NFL, a stable situation and getting the time needed to develop that turned Mahomes into Mahomes.

Moon moved around a bit but I think he was more than a journeyman. He had a HOF championship career in the CFL before playing for Houston. This was before the NFL embraced black QBs.

Yeah, that was a thing.

He was an elite passer.I remember watching him in the Kingdome and mentioned to a friend that I thought he threw one of the nicest deep balls I'd ever seen.
Yeah , it could've been the drugs and alcohol but still.
Before he played for the Huskies he was a ball boy there for a time, they marvelled at this kid that would throw the balls 3/4 the length of the field back to the guy shagging for the Punters. He could easily throw 100 yards later on. Just a Howitzer for an arm.

But that experience of being an understudy and seeing multiple Coordinators pass through has given him a knowledge base of years more than he has been in the league.
Fans tend to discount bench years for players. I don't. The right coaching staff can make those years very productive for the player's development.

Not really a cheapshot. Just bewildered at the arrogance of taking that viewpoint. Andy sat him for a reason. Andy believes in sitting QBs early for a reason.

Mahomes wasn't ready. Same way Love wasn't ready, but Mahomes was obviously more talented.

For now…Yes? No? Why or why not?
I voted no. In my opinion he's gotten better, and is the best option we have now. But the last couple years we haven't made the playoffs and if he's considered a franchise guy we should have made playoffs at least once since he's been starting. This year will tell alot.

And Wilson has been done for years now. Not a great example. Let's just be honest, the guy is up there in a young man's sport.
Wilson is done because he lost his speed and elusiveness. Geno just ran 21 mph on a touchdown run, and showed great pocket presence and evaded the Pats pass rush quite well.

Geno might be 33 going on 34, but he hasn't taken anywhere near the beating Russell did and he's in significantly better shape. Russ is chubby, slow and can't get away with his old tricks anymore. He can still throw the ball really well, but without his other skills he's not really fit for the job anymore.

Maybe Geno can be the first QB to full off being both a franchise QB and the guy while also neither being the QB of the franchise nor the man.

We made the playoffs his first year as the starter.

We played SF in 2022. Lost the game unfortunately, but that's also Geno's only playoff start ever and that 49ers squad was substantially better.
