JaMarcus Russell was also the #1 overall pick despite tons of red flags, and he was nothing but a complete disaster.

Ryan Leaf was a complete disaster too, but he was the #2 overall pick. Does that make it a little less bad? I don't know.

Trey Lance was the #3 overall pick, but (and this is a pretty huge but), the 9ers traded 3 first round picks to trade up for him. That kinda seems worse than just using the #1 or #2 overall pick for a massive bust. That's a lot more opportunity cost flushed down the toilet for a huge bust.

The 9ers are obviously very good, but just imagine how much better they might be if they hadn't flushed 3 1st round picks down the toilet on Trey Lance.
