A lot of people have predicted the Rams as #2 in the division or if they don’t have them as #2 they have them winning the division . Now that Aaron Donald is gone, how strong is their defense going to be? They lost Raheem morris as well, Shula is a first year DC. 18 total defense, 19 ppg, 22 DVOA. Lowest amount of cap expenditure in the league. 3 rookies starting on D . This team will go as far as their defense will lead them as their offense is likely to be very good

It’ll be fun to see what happens.

Shula seems more aggressive than Morris was. And without AD, the D is developing a new dynamic not built around him.

We'll see. Being without Aaron Donald is huge. He was a stud to the end, and hadn't lost that much.

But to lose Raheem Morris is going to have an impact. And now they've traded Ernest Jones, who is a really good linebacker. They'll learn the hard way what happens when you don't have strong linebacker play.

Last season the Rams moved on from 9 defensive starters. This year we're moving on from the remaining 2 survivors. There are 26 defensive players on the active roster and 4 more on IR. 10 of those 30 players are rookies.

Yes. The team will only go as far as the defense will go.

I don't know how you take one of the best defensive players of all-time and just think 'we'll be fine'. I'm prepared to be amazed but I'll be shocked if their defense doesn't take a huge step back and the media seems to be sleeping on this a bit with their Rams projections.

I badly wanted Verse to be a Seahawk. But you can't have everything and I'm very happy to get my top picks in Murphy and Coach Mac.
Rams have had some sort of voodoo curse going against us for a long time. Going back to them being in St Louis. We've always struggled to beat them. I think our makeover will get things back on track and we at least get a split out of them this year, if not the sweep. Remember, last year they only got the sweep via a last second FG.

The key words.

WITHOUT Aaron Donald. That will be the new dynamic . Losing the baddest interior lineman in the NFL and sure first ballot HOFer can't be a good thing . LAR always seem to put a good defense together though.

I can't blame you for your fandom optimism. We're all guilty of that at this point.

Haven't you heard ? Seattle is winning 15 games this season 😆

I also wanted Verse, only because I thought there was no way Murphy would still be on the board when the Seahawks were up to select.

So many unknowns in the NFCW this year. Other than the Niners being the team to beat, I don't know what to think. The Rams, Hawks, are in uncharted territory. The Cards will likely be the most improved team this season.

Lots of compelling storylines in first week matchups across the league. I'll be watching the NFCW, and the battle of the QB controversies in Steelers-Falcons

Turner along with Fiske already makes their defensive front a problem. Throw in Verse and Young and they will give offenses fits. Curl was an under radar signing as he is one of the finer young safeties in the NFL.

I would argue I want to see how that CB room holds up without Morris more so than the loss of AD up front. Morris was able to squeeze as much as he could out of the group he had year to year.

I do not think the Rams front seven can be dominate enough to hide the boundary and nickel and CB play. However, I still really believe that Fiske, Turner, Young and Verse are going to be a handful for teams to deal with.

Based on their offensive talent though and how good that offense will be honestly they just need a barely passable average defense to compete as that is the new NFL norm in the modern era.

I don't give a rip how deep your bench or how good your coaching is, you don't just bounce back from losing quite possibly a top 10, if not top 5, defensive lineman of all time. The Rams defense will take a step, or 3, back. They're going to have to win shootouts this season to get anywhere, which isn't exactly a recipe for success in this league.
