I know most of you are glad I'm not the GM, but if I was, I'd start by cutting the following players to clean cap space IF I couldn't trade them.

Gono
Adams
Lockett

Lets hear your hate.

Cheers

Lock is an unrestricted free agent and therefore, doesn't need to be cut.

I agree with the first 2, if we can't trade any of the first 2. But not Locket.

34 - 3 years of bench splinters, if I'm a team with a top 10 defense and ambition I'm listening personally..
After 3/17 roster bonus maybe, but at that point seahawks only save 12.5 million from trading him....

I'm skeptical we can get any return at all, let alone a decent one, so if we aren't cutting him, I'm good with ONE more year, but I think it makes more sense to move on before Friday

If we keep geno I'm OK moving on from lockett, if we are going with a rookie and no geno, I'd rather keep the 3 wr together to ease his first year or two.

That being said, a two year extension makes a lot of sense either way and is my personal preference.

Ease the immediate cap burden, and let him play through retirement or until 35 at a lower cost.

I haven't really formed a personal opinion on jamal, he has no upcoming roster bonus or anything like that, so unless someone wants to trade for him, or we can't find a way to get cap room to resign guys elsewhere (should be able to by a healthy margin) it doesn't make any sense to cut him before Macdonald and him meet, and can get a look at him in camp.

I'd not want to extend Lockett. He's on the downhill slope and it would be too expensive. I'm thinking what probably makes sense is to keep him for now and then see how the season unfolds. If we have no realistic change of making the playoffs, we can trade him for a draft pick before the deadline. If some contender has a WR go down (or finds itself otherwise short in the receivers room), they might be willing to send us a second rounder. Probably not realistic to think a first possible but I'd love to be wrong.

What do you think about if we pull a trade off with a QB needy team not in the top 3.
Like say Atlanta? They are sitting @ #8. What if we offered them Geno, pick #16 & '25 2nd or 3rd rd pick.
@ #8 Seattle Seahawks take JJ McCarthy! Or Maye or Daniels if they fall?

Couple thoughts, I wouldn't mind this approach at all, if we're struggling with him mid-season and can get a second you gotta jump on that.

Wouldn't necessarily be expensive to extend him though, if you offer a low bonus and solid salary, you could save probably 10+ mil this year AND next.... Makes it more difficult to trade him with more bonus money, but for the extra cap room it'd be something mutually beneficial.

Right decision with lockett imo, heavily depends on how many years you think he has left, and I don't know if there's a good answer to that.

No thanks on McCarthy. There's no way of knowing if Maye or Daniels fall and, if they do, it may not be all the way to 8. But there should be some real potential game changers at 8 so if we could trade up and get good value, I'd not be opposed. I doubt Geno would bring much trade value so I'd be surprised if we could trade #16 plus Geno and a 2nd for #8.

I might literally cry if we traded UP for Mccarthy.

I would probably be ok with him in the 3rd. I'd be uncomfortable in the 2nd but might be able to talk myself into it IF we had a 2nd.

Most overrated qb prospect in a long time, maybe since lance

I don't see atl trading down though, they're in a good spot to take a legit wr, and I don't know how they feel about Ridder, but it's awfully early to move on.

For a trade in general though, I wouldn't make one before draft day, but if one of the top 3 QB's slips to maybe 6+, I wouldn't be upset at all at the idea, for the right price.

Can't keep Lockett @ $27mil for a #3 WR is not good management.
Sure you can just restructure him add more years for the same amount left on his contract to lesson the cap hit. I think we can do that from what I read. Also he is definitely not the number 3 option in my opinion. At times last year he was the 1 option. He still has a couple years left. I say we move on from one of our over priced DB's instead because I think we have plenty of depth there.

I would hope Lockett would come back at a lower rate of pay but otherwise I would be fine with this list and probably 4-5 more also. Diggs needs to go also at the very least.
