Brock Purdy had a pretty decent college career. I think he was overlooked because he played for a mediocre Iowa State team. But his college stats were pretty impressive.

This was another case of the measureables getting in the way of the tape. Just because he did 27 inches on the vertical jump (27 inches!), people said he's no athlete. (By comparison, Will Levis was at 34 and Richardson 40.5). He also has small hands and arms (9 1/4" and 29"). Well, it turns out he's big enough and athletic enough.

Got to hand it to Shanahan. Purdy wasn't even projected to be drafted.

He did, but he didn't put up AMAZING numbers and got a rep as a bit of a gunslinger and took unnecessary chances. That's the "Superman" aspect I was referring to.

On the 49ers he doesn't need to be that guy.

So...does that mean he's "average" and its all the system or does that mean he can be elite when he's not forced to make something out of nothing on every play? Dunno. I guess we'll find out.

dude has a Blitzburg road game and TJ Watt vs Colton McKivitz to deal with come Week 1. That will be a test on many levels.
LFG!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah I like Pitt big time in that game. Pickett is going to dice up their weak secondary

Purdy is better than most Hawks fans are giving him credit for. But the Joe Montana comparison is gawdam silly.

So, now he's the next Joe Montana? Now that's funny.

Go Hawks
meme hopium, not even sure he’s Alex Smith yet. maybe Jeff Garcia? he has that type of baller/work ethic aspect to him.

I think he's a good QB, and def. has an it factor to him. But talk about needing to pump the breaks a little.

Again...I went out of my way to say he wasn't. I'm referring only to his quantifiable attributes...which are lacking.

I know. I'm responding to the meme. Spiderman's quantifiable attributes probably aren't often described as "lacking."

its amazing how much Purdy dominated Geno Smith statistically given the 49ers weak secondary.

Biggest unknown in my mind is how much better will the Hawks retooled D be against us on early running downs?
Covering the Hawks triple WR sets is going to be no fun if we don’t get to Geno.
But we most likely will, so there is that.

If we can't stop the run, then this year will be no different than last year. Because the formula for success is: (1) stop or slow down the 49er run game --> (2) make Purdy throw the ball --> (3) get effective pressure on Purdy. But if we can't do #1, we never get to #2 or #3.

My questions about the 49er run game are: (1) how much will the 49ers miss Mike McGlinchey? (2) what new wrinkles has Shanahan been working on, and will we be able to adapt to them? (3) will CMC be as good as he has been?

Shanahan says Purdy "would have to melt" to lose the starting QB job:

So much confidence in a guy with a pretty small sample size (7 games). Reminds me of another rookie QB that Shanahan coached, RGIII. RGIII had a pretty good rookie year, throwing 20 TDs vs. 5 ints, 3200 yards. That quickly turned out to be a mirage, and RGIII probably had more talent than Purdy.

I don't understand what the issues are with Brock.. other than he's a 49er.. Seems not to make mistakes, plays within himself..passes are accurate and doesn't seem to get rattled that said, I don't like him, he's a 9er.
