Seattle is about a strong 75-80 percent ready to compete for the NFC, right now, this upcoming season.

After the 2024 NFL draft, Seattle, should be very strong 80-99 percent ready to compete for the Super Bowl.

The 2024-2025 season Seattle should be true legit contenders for the Super Bowl.

And, yes, I think Seattle wins the 2025 Super Bowl.
Whoa!!! easy there hotrod!! One of the worst defenses in the league last year. They cant stop the run to save their lives, until that's fixed, we aint sniffing the Division much less the NFC title. They are going to have to make some pretty serious progress to compete for the NFC Title.

I’m don’t think it’s fair to say that. For all his ego flaws, RW was elite at one thing: comeback wins. Even in his rookie year.

That is not Geno. Could that change? Hopefully.

But that Bowl win happened in some part because of RW.
Comeback wins require a defense that can hold down the other team's offense in the 4th quarter. Russ had that for much of his time in Seattle. Geno didn't have that last year. IIRC Geno got official credit for 2 4QC games (vs Rams), but it could easily have been 4 or more.

* Saints game: Geno leads drive, Hawks go up 32-31 in 4th qtr. Defense promptly allows a Saints TD and 2-point conversion. Defense then allows Saints to run out the clock on next drive.
* Raiders game: In OT Josh Jacobs rips off 199-yard run straight up the middle of our defense (OK, so it was only 80ish yards) to win the game.

Then there were the Detroit and LA Chargers ROAD games, where Geno and the offense executed multiple clutch TD drives to maintain a 2-score lead in the 4th quarter. (Walker busting a 70-yard TD run in second half against both teams sure didn't hurt either) Geno didn't get a shot at a 4QC because the Hawks O kept scoring and not relinquishing the lead. There were more games where Geno and the O stayed multiple scores ahead. For example, the two AZ games and the Jets game.

After a while I had to stop the "Yeah... but's..." and stop holding it against Geno that he was winning games by maintaining 2-score leads and not needing 4th quarter comebacks. Had to realize that Geno was "clutch enough".

Yes, exactly because just like Geno, Cousins is decidedly UNCLUTCH.
Eh. Jury is still out on Geno. Buncha jokers tried to pin that 2021 interception where Tyler fell down on the route on him and poisoned the well, despite him having gone 98 yards off the bench to bring the Hawks back into that game to begin with.

Been a joke of a narrative since then.

His career being alive right now is a testament to his demeanor. I'm not willing to write him off as "unclutch" like Kirk, who we have nearly a decade of starting data on (and who costs a lot more than Geno).

You show me a quarterback in the entire league clutch enough to overcome your defense letting 200 rushing yards a game in, and I'll show you a big ass liar.

Exactly. And also, with Wilson, I never lost faith that there was always a chance to win. If the team needed a game winning drive or 4th quarter comeback, I always believed and had hope because I saw it a million times. With Geno, I throw in the towel and go mow grass because I know the probability of a win is about zilch.
I used to feel that way. The year Geno filled in for Wilson during the 3 games he was injured, that's how 2 of the 3 games went. He'd make stupid turnovers at the worst possible times. Run for a 1st down then get hit and fumble and lose the ball. Throw a ball the receiver tips up in the air and it gets picked off. Schleprock Geno, it seemed like a curse. (Schleprock is a charactacter known for having a dark cloud of bad luck always following him around, see https://flintstones.fandom.com/wiki/Schleprock) IIRC Geno followed that same Schleprock script in a couple preseason games as well.

Then last year, the team started scoring earlier and didn't need so many comebacks. The issue became the team's defense, or rather, lack thereof.

The O-line had trouble protecting Geno and that led to untimely QB hits and sack-fumbles. Poster child would be the wildcard game vs. SF. Instead of a 4th quarter go-ahead TD, the ball gets turned over for the other team to march down the field against our crap D for a TD. Simply improving the O-Line to reduce the number of those game-changing plays makes Geno a more successful, more clutch QB. Let's hope the Hawks have improved the OL that during the offseason, between new acquisitions and the rookie tackles being a year wiser and better. Also giving Geno one more reliable weapon who is open a lot and catches what's thrown to him will be a massive help on 3rd downs. Enter Jaxon Smith-Nigba and, as a bonus, Zach Charbonnet.

Next season, if the drama is too much, absolutely, go mow the lawn, I understand. Then come in afterwards with hopeful anticipation to see what Geno and the Offense have done at crunch time while you were mowing. I predict we'll see a much more "clutch" Geno in 2023, simply by virtue of the improvements around him.

Of course, if the porous D allows the other team to march the ensuing kickoff down the field and score, that's going to screw Geno's 4QC numbers again, so here's hoping for massive improvements on D. A better D will make Geno a much better QB.

Some folk are just contrarians by nature, they'll never accept Geno can take the owl.

This dude has a ring and he's as pedestrian as they come. I'd even say he's just bad, haha

Geno can win a Superbowl, don't know if he will. But that's what Sundays are for. Who cares if any of us believe it anyway. The only people that I care about buying into it aren't posting on a message board, haha.
Geno maybe better than Dilfer but the current Seahawks defense is nowhere near that Ravens defense. That's the difference. If that is being a contrarian then so be it.

Gotta think the run defense is better than last year. Run defense isn’t only just you need the right players, you also need the right system.

The pieces on defense now is different from last year. The scheme will be different this year.

Much has been made and said in regards to the of the 3-4 defense, what hasn’t been realized is the personnel on defense will play differently then how it was schemed last year.

This year run defense will be better, largely, due to a scheme changes.

Gotta agree with the defensive responsibility when staging a comeback. I’m in awe of Geno but, I’m not sure he has the ‘magic’ for miraculous 4th quarter comebacks.

At the same time, I’m not sure he doesn’t have it.

If forced to bet on it, I’d put my $$ on him.

There is a simple solution for that:

Seattles offense does not let it come down to a fourth quarter comeback.

Seattle consistently puts points on the board and no comeback is needed!

This year offense should be even better than last year!

Let’s gooooo!!!!

I guess I shouldn't even watch the Seahawks this year. Between this thread and the other SB thread, what's the point. All this talk of Geno isn't good enough and we're still 2-3 years away.

OF COURSE we have a chance to win the SB this upcoming season. Im seeing people rank us 3rd in the NFC behind Philly and San Fran. As in, only a whopping TWO (2) teams in the conference look better on paper! I'm seeing some say we've narrowed the gap with the Niners while others are actually picking us to surpass them. And what if Philly has a SB loss hangover? "OK, but even if we get to the Super Bowl, we're still not beating the AFC!"

Right, because Super Bowl upsets never happen. And who's to say Seattle wouldn't be favored by then, depending on the way things play out.
I haven't seen anyone rank us 3rd in the NFC, everyone has Dallas ahead of us and nearly everyone has Detroit ahead as well. The bookies have us at around +4000 to get the Owl this year (2.5% chance) which I think is about right. I'm not giving up but realise the chances are pretty slim.

I am fully behind Pete and John, Carter MIGHT be a difference maker but the red flags were huge, having a star player with the sort of attitude he appeared to show to his pro day could infect the whole team. People were hoping we couild get AR at 5, and have him hold the clipboad this year, meaning this year I team would be essentially the same except we wouldn't have Witherspoon, pretty much elimination our chances this year in the hope that the guy who only started 13 games at college turns out ot be significantly better than Trey Lance (who started 17 and probably looked better in them).

The Eagles went from 9-8 in 2021 to a Super Bowl appearance in 2022 so it can be done. However, it's not the norm and the Seahawks haven't spent every cap dollar they could get their hands on to acquire player talent.

Yeah, he was really good when he had the best running game in the league to move the chains for him.

Unfortunately, when the team puts him in a position to succeed, he becomes an unbelievable diva cancer who wants to throw 60 times a game.

He's good at the deep ball and literally nothing else at this point in his career, and that's fading fast. That's the whole goddamned point the others and I were making for years.

Maybe he's finally been humbled after becoming an absolute joke and destroying half his legacy in one year, but is it too late?

Jesus, the discourse around this dude is so dumb. One side of this argument got pretty conclusively proven correct, yet others still double down. It's hilarious.
Who is doubling down? Like Your debate with me over Shaq Griffin? You double and then tripled down on him. 😂😂. You were 110% wrong about him being elite. You come across super condescending and act like you know more then anyone else. It is funny because I agree with you at times but you still come across like you think you are the Albert Einstein of Football knowledge. You have had plenty swings and misses.

I will be blunt. If you think Russ was never elite, you should never, ever be taken serious. If you think Russ is the best QB to play the game, you should never be taken serious.

Russ had the best deep ball in the game. He also could not hit underneath consistently. Pete hid his weaknesses very well and RW's ego got the best of him. Russ is better then Geno. Geno has to prove it for a decade or win multiple chips.

Ok 2 years out 10. Not exactly the best running game carrying him his career. Wilson is probably one of most efficient QB of all time, not just 2018. He had a top 10 offense 8 out 10 seasons. While throwing considerably less then most QBs most of his career. 3rd best rushing qB of all time.

Second most wins, 37,000yrds passing, 292tds, 65% completion 3rd best all time in TD to INT ratio

Yeah its was because of the running games....
Ppl are mad because of the divorce and what Russ became ego wise. It clouds the judgement.

There are key moments in every season when things go south and the qb needs to put the team on his back and will them to a win. We've not yet seen that magic from Geno. It's only natural to be a bit skeptical until he proves that he has it. Fingers crossed.

Yep, he's a starting QB who has never won a playoff game, and had one comeback win. Is he capable of getting to the SB? Hopefully. He's our QB for at least another year. Russ WAS one of the better QB's for much of his career, not close to the best, but damn good. He's long gone and this team has moved forward and is on the rise. Let's see how it plays out. I'm glad Geno is the QB, but the level of butthurt if anyone dare say one thing that isn't about him floating in mid air is odd. QB is the most scrutinized position in sports. So not everyone thinks he walks on water, big fricken deal.
Everything Shane said is on point. Not all of us can be the "expert" that some actually believe they are. All while talking down to them like they are some almighty Rob Staton know it all. But, it's not going to change. We don't all get along, and that's fine. Getting personal and doing the I know best thing is really old and used up. NONE of us are experts, ALL of us get predictions or claims wrong. So what? We're all Hawks fans, or at least I THINK we are :)
Then again, if someone can't even admit that they were wrong about a claim/prediction etc. why bother even having the conversation? He thinks he knows more than everyone, and doesn't mind tell you about it. Everyone else is stupid, and he's a genius. Got it.
Go Hawks

Wilson had his flaws, but he was reliable in the 4th quarter. Geno Smith, not so much. In fact, Wilson is I believe third in 4th quarter comebacks and also is up there in game winning drives.

Wilson did come with his own set of flaws that made it things difficult. He was a terribly uneven QB that would disappear for long periods of time.

If we could merge Geno and Wilson together we’d have the perfect QB, but unfortunately that is not the case.
Wilson constantly PUT games into the 4th quarter IMO.

PC: "That's just Russ doing what Russ DOES."

Geno's fine. We got a better offense. And no Munich. That's good enough for me. Gimmie 1st half of the 2022 season Geno any old day.

Since Trent Dilfer is off the table.

How about these world beating elite QBs...Brad Johnson, Eli Manning, Nick Foles, Matt Stafford, Jake Delhomme, Rex Grossman, Colin Kaepernick, Cam Newton, Matt Ryan, Jared Goff, Jimmy Garappolo. All took their teams ro the championship, none of which I would take over Geno Smith.

McMahon, Plunkett, Doug Williams, Rypien, and Hostetler all won Super Bowls, with Plunkett, Williams, and Rypien getting Super Bowl MVP awards, and I'd take Smith over all of them.

This brings back the old debate: Is it clutch, or is it luck? A lot of splash plays at the end of a game are clearly more the product of luck than a QB's skill. Take, for example, the hail mary play. When Kyler Murray completed one a couple of years ago, everyone was ready to anoint him as the second coming, but those plays aren't about the QB at all.

Or take the 2014 NFC championship game, Seahawks vs. Packers. Wilson completes a crucial 2-point pass to Luke Willson that's really nothing more than a desperation heave. But we saw that as clutch. (Never mind that Russ completed only 50% of his passes that day or threw 4 interceptions to put the Seahawks into the hole.)

I think some players are more clutch than others, though. There are players who rise to the occasion and play their best when everything is on the line. Can't say if Geno is clutch or not. I saw Geno's first NFL game in person, though, and saw him come back from a 17-point deficit to beat the Bucs. I don't think there's enough of a sample size to judge if Geno will be good in crunch time.
