This is quoted from a linked write up ...............

"In coverage, per Pro Football Focus, Bush allowed opponents to complete north of 75 percent of their passes and throw three touchdowns when targeting him. On a positive note, he did produce four pass breakups in 2021.

On the smaller side at 5-foot-11, 234 pounds, Bush may not seem like the best fit for a 3-4 scheme like the one Seattle transitioned to last year and struggled working off of blocks at times in Pittsburgh. However, he's a phenomenal athlete and posted ridiculous testing numbers at the 2019 NFL Combine, including running a sub-4.45 40-yard dash, jumping 40.5 inches vertically, and posting a blazing 6.93-secod 3-cone drill." >>> https://www.si.com/nfl/seahawks/new...ncy-contract-steelers-rumor-bobby-wagner-sign

If the guy can't cut it in Pittsburgh with that great coaching staff, he's really going to struggle here. I'd be shocked if he made the final 53. Basically just another Barton

Bush and Barton are rather different in their makeup and physical attributes.

Undersized guy that has no speed anymore after the injury

Not a good combination.

Probably another failed experiment of former high draft pick. If he wasn’t a high pick, I doubt he would still get a chance other than practice roster

It's an okay signing. You're not always going to be able to sign everyone because of the salary cap. Trenton Simpson may be their target at #20 pick (if he is still there). If that's their strategy, I like it.

Yet they'll have the same result.
And you're right, he's 3 inches shorter than Barton.

Barton weighs 238, Bush 234. Huge difference

So Bush is slightly better than Barton? And we got a cheap version of Barton?
I think Bush's college and combine stats were better, he also had a decent rookie season ... not much after that, may be due to injuries?

There are more than just one attribute and many differences in they're individual makeup. I thought you knew that.

I'm ok with this, assuming it's a minimal, prove it kind of deal. He's unlikely to be better than Barton, but he shoukd be cheaper.

If he doesn't flash in training camp, he can be cut.
If he is worse than Barton then we don't need him because Barton was trash.

It was a need, let's see how he does before assuming he sucks. He was a 1st round pick and he's all of 24 years old.

Bush ran a better 40 by .21 and a significantly better vertical. Other than that, I'm not really sure what argument you're attempting to make sir.

If Pittsburgh didn't want him back, a team that has historically kept their own when it comes to linebackers, it's telling that they were willing to part ways with the kid at 24 years old.

Hey, I hope I'm wrong. I hope he has a stellar career here and gets resigned going forward. My only source in saying he won't make the 53 is "trust me bro."

Here and there
I read somewhere that the coaching styles are a huge factor with the Steelers. This was one of their Pittsburgh media stories, but no link to provide..sorry. Pittsburg is a bit unforgiving and impatient with their LB's from what I gathered where Pete tends to more forgiving giving a player more of a chance to grow..although sometimes at the a bit more than they deserve..IMHO....but hey, he's the Head Coach here...what do I know. But the story i read hinted that Bush may yet thrive under Pete's environment rather than Pittsburgh.

Good change of scenery, reclamation project candidate depending on what the contract details end up at. I'm expecting a $4m figure but would be impressed at anything under $3m. Of course the guarantees are the important part for a contract on a hit or miss player like this.

Bush was a top 10 pick so part of the issue is likely the expectations that surround that. He looked good his first season and a half up until his ACL tear and hasn't been able to return to that level of play two and a half years later. The speed no longer shows up on the field so the question is how much of that is physical and how much is mental.
Devin Bush says the mental aspect is the most difficult part of rehab from the ACL tear. Compares it to getting bit by a dog. “If you get bit by a dog, the next time you see a dog, (you’re thinking about the bite).”

Steelers fans are understandably down on him because he's their first round bust, but their main complaints are that he was seemingly always out of position, couldn't get off blocks to make tackles, and unsubstantiated concerns about his work ethic and attitude post-injury. As we saw here in Seattle, another factor could be that the Steelers have had unusually weak DL play for their franchise recently.

Our coaching staff does emphasize giving their LBs clear keys to follow in the hope that it will lead to faster play, whereas Pittsburgh has a much more flowing and "figure it out on the fly" preference. To the degree that Bush is struggling with the football IQ aspect of the game this move could help him as well.
