What makes a guy more/less a crapshoot is what he shows on his college tape. Wherever number they all end up getting drafted, there’s a big drop off from Young/Stroud to Levis/Richardson.
But a guy like Jalen Carter who averages 2 tackles per game and a sack every 6th game, is going to suddenly lead this team to a playoff contender?

There are no clear cut must have defenders in this draft. There is no Bosa or Garrett or Watt. Why would you not swing for the fences at a QB, the most valuable position in the league. Do you think the niners would rather have Bosa or a Mahomes/Burrow/Allen?

Agreed. I think AR should have stayed another year, but he didn't. So, one has to project what he would be if he had stayed in. Hard to do, admittedly.

The Hawks are finally in a spot to draft a top legit QB prospect, and some fans would rather pick a pass rusher who also has huge question marks, in a draft that's said to be loaded with pass rushers that can be had at #20 and the two 2nd round picks.

john schneider ain't picking jalen carter at #5. let's move on from that idea.

and richardson might not even be available at #5 at this point. his combine and interviews have pushed his stock way way up.

Agreed. Carter will be available at pick 5 guaranteed. There’s just way too many red flags especially if he likes his drink a little too much. I Already had reservations regarding his work ethic and character.

Ok, lets assume we're not taking Carter no matter what. And that you strongly believe Richardson, Anderson, Young, and Stroud will not be available at 5. What do you do if you're the Hawks: Try to trade up? Stay put and take Levis? Or trade back?

Trade down, if possible, and draft DL.

my thoughts:

john schneider would take will levis at #5 if he's available, i'm confident in saying that. but i don't think levis makes it to #5 in any scenario.

one of either bryce young, richardson, or anderson jr. should fall to us. so out of those 3, i think JS would take richardson and anderson jr, but trade down if it's bryce young sitting there.

i hope they don't trade up, but i wouldn't rule it out simply because JS may think one of these guys can be in the mahomes/burrows/allen class. he certainly has the ammo to make a move up.

Las Vegas odds on February 16 that Richardson is the first overall pick: 80 to 1. Las Vegas odds on March 5: 4 to 1 (second behind only Bryce Young).

I wonder what the odds are that the first 4 picks are all QBs?

I'm not an expert on draft pick values. Would trading #5 and #20 be enough to get up to #1?

#5, #20, #37 and a high pick in next years draft. because consider it wouldn't just be us bidding for #1.

yep, too rich for my blood.

Depends on how motivated Chicago is to move the first pick and how much competition there is for the first pick.

I have not made up my mind about Richardson. His draft stock is going through the roof after his combine performance. The one thing i know is that the Seahawks are going to have the opportunity to get what they want either a game changer DL or a QB. I BELIEVE the Seahawks are going to kill this draft, i really want to be a fly on the wall in the Seahawks draft room.

I think there is more to being a Qb other than how fast you run the 40 and how well you throw the ball with no pressure etc. these are the things we can't see about Richardson.

I want to see what the Hawks do in FA before i decide who they are going to take in the draft.

I think the wise thing to do is fill all the gaps in FA then take the best player available in the draft...

For the record, i think Richardson is going to go in the top 5. I think his rise is going to open up a lot for the Hawks if i am JS I AM SALAVADING at the flexability the hawks currently have.

Just my take

Based on the trade chart, the cost would be: 5, 20 & 37. Or something like- 5, 20, 51 & a 3rd/4th.

You don’t have to look past last year’s draft to look for players who show a lot of physical talent, but haven’t done it on the field. Malik Willis comes to mind. People were talking that he can go in the top five last year and what happened? I’m not saying Richardson is Malik Willis, but there’s definitely some similarities in the situation.

The one thing i wanted to add is look at what happened to the Niners with Trey Lance. We still dont know whats going to happen with this guy but he kinda looks like a bust. Using that number 5 pick I want the Hawks to draft a sure thing as they might not get this opportunity for a long time.

What will the opportunities be if a team like the Raiders want to trade up to get Richardson? Would they be willing to trade a ridiculous amount of draft capital to get him? An unproven player with high up side? Right under the raiders at 8 is Atlanta who probably would be willing to trade up how hot are they on Richardson?

I guess it just depends on how the Hawks see the draft. Do they look at Drew lock as a QB that could be in their future? Is there another Qb in the Draft flying under the radar that they feel could be good enough to he there future?

The other thing is how far is dies Jalan Carter fall in the draft due to his recent court issues? Does he fall to 20? I doubt it but it definately affects the top 5.

The way i see it the Hawks are sitting pretty at number 5 they are positioned to do what ever they want and if im JS im all giggly vs and sh^t...

I really like the way the Hawks have positioned themselves in this draft.
