Hackett really submarine'd Denver's season, huh?

Wilson has looked like his old self down the stretch, and the folks who cover the Broncos feel like they've identified the problem: Nathaniel Hackett.

Some of it was still on Russ of course, but it was Murphy's Law in Denver-- with all of the injuries, and Hackett steering the ship into a typhoon, they never stood a chance.

It worked out for the Hawks as they got a top 5 pick out of it, while getting to rub Wilson's nose in it. However, Denver is going to be much better next year.

Well now they have no draft picks really and will be in cap hell along with trying to lure F.A.'s that on offense will have to play with Mr. Eliminated and risk getting called into his office if they don't meet his standards.

But, but, .............

this doesn't fit the narrative that Russell Wilson is evil & has no friends & no coach will ever want to work with such a coach killer.<see above post>

I noticed the first game after Hackett's firing, the Broncos started running the Russell Wilson Offense where he is a threat to run, and stopped trying to have him run the Aaron Rodgers offense. Denver and Me3 will be decent next year, maybe over .500. Russell can still only run the Mr. Limited offense, but if he can game-manage and get an occasional deep shot, it can be a winning regular season formula. If Denver gets their best RBs back or trades for one, they could do much better than expected next year, as long as their D keeps up their top-level play.

Don't particularly care anymore, but if a 9-loss season is "much better," then yes, they are going to look much better. That's their ceiling next year.

Packers, Vikings, Patriots, Jets, Bills, Dolphins, Bears, Lions, Commanders, Browns, Texans, Chiefs x2, Chargers x2, Raiders x2.

Yeah, Denver started turning it on just a bit there at the end.

They're going to need a fantastic coaching job to get close to Seattle's overall success with Russ at the helm, if you ask me. Russ seems notably to have really embraced the whole "run the ball, move the pocket" thing, at least in public statements, and I think that bodes well for him having a less embarrassing end to his career.

Still, without resounding success, he'll never live this year down, and neither will the franchise (until they rebuild again).

I think it's a bit of a mistake to oversell the results of what was an entire game played in garbage time where the home team was playing to try and salvage their dignity, but the away team was just playing to stay ready for next week.

There were some beautiful throws in that game by Russ, absolute dimes but look at his actual stat line: 13/24 for 280+? This is a normal boom or bust Russ stat line. He got what, nearly 200 of those yards off just 4 passes? I'm not saying those plays don't count--they absolutely do--but when those deep bombs don't work (which has been more and more of an issue for him) look how much offensive production you lose off just breaking up a couple more plays.

Denver is going to have to go all-in on 'Pete ball' to bring in those safeties and give Russ these opportunities because they can't count on playing teams who are going to be pulling starters by the 4th quarter or earlier every game next year.

Russ did look pretty nimble in some of these plays and outside of the hit to our draft position, I'm a little happy he didn't end the year with another dumpster fire performance, but this doesn't scream to me that Denver is getting anything more than the same frustrating Russ we had the last couple years: Beautiful when it goes right but more often 3 and outs galore.

Wilson was much better down the stretch and that one touchdown to Jeudy rolling to his left is a play only a couple of guys in the league can make so I think a turnaround is very possible.

Fade I agree with you, I think Hackett was more a problem than many realized and I was wrong on the hiring. I thought he was a great fit but he wasn't. Team had a ton of injuries, first year coach, first year quarterback etc and it just snowballed. I do think Wilson has a massive bounce back next year. He probably won't be what he was in Seattle when he was in the conversation for best in the league at times but he will be much, much better.

Can't Hack It was brought in to do one thing and one thing only: land Erin Rodgers. EPIC FAIL. So, Denver had to settle for "the next best thing" in Mr I'm Limited. I do dislike me some Erin, but he is on a different universe than RW. Erin might come up small in big games, but at least he usually gets past the first round of the playoffs. Same can't be said for ME3. I do expect ME3 to be better next year with the right head coach. But he will never be a top tier QB again, IMHO.

He played very well the week prior as well, and just before he suffered his concussion.

The first game back from the concussion he was terrible and it killed his TD/INT ratio. Of what would've been a very typical RW probowl month of football.

They put in an offense the final two weeks with a new playcaller that played to his strengths. The new coach they hire is going to see that, along with Wilson eating the hugest slice of humble pie I've ever seen. He has no choice but to go back to the formula that made him a 9 time probowler in 10 seasons.

Yes. When Wilson gets in trouble is when his team can't run teams out of 2 high. Denver when healthy has a strong running game, which forces the heavy boxes.

Where people get Pete ball twisted is running into those loaded boxes repeatedly. Instead of going playaction and making teams pay for loading the box.

Yeah, he doesn't have the escapability to be what he was in Seattle. But he still moves well enough, and throws a great deep ball to compliment a team that plays defense and runs the ball.

I was wrong on Hackett as well. He is a son of a coach, I thought that would mean more than it did. Dude is a joke, and they had to keep stripping responsibilities from him, until they had no choice but to outright fire him.

I'm glad the Hawks got a top 5 pick at least.

But were you wrong about Pete? STILL waiting to hear you give him one ounce of credit. Esp. after the just made the playoffs.
His halftime speech must have been epic yesterday. They were flat as you can be the first half. Totally different team in the 2nd half. THAT is on Pete and the coaching staff.

Wilson has been like this his entire career.

A very unique system QB with 2 elite strengths, leveraged over a decent NFL career.

The issue is that now, most of .NET likes to pretend they saw it all along, but were resisting all the talk for years that he had limitations. Never mind the frustration of barely winning games like the Miami Dolphins home opener (2016?), or some other stinkers that year like versus Tampa, Green Bay. Tell me how those games were any better than what Wilson put on tape this season with Denver?

He only regressed last season or two.....right.

If anything, he got noticeably better post 2018 to where road games weren't automatic losses anymore. Wilson throwing the ball actually resulted in more offense starting in 2019. No longer was too high a passing percentage causing losses.....it was actually contributing to wins (thanks to DK & Lockett mostly, I would say).

When looked at it really objectively, holy f*** were the 2012-2016 Seahawk teams really stacked and well coached......of course we knew that, but man, based on last few months, they had to be something out of this world.
